It's not that I don't think they're good, just can't get my head round how much you have to pay for a decent second tier footballer these days

I would say 50%. 1 - Mike Tresor - £15.5m (Burnley) Not sure what the situation is there. Didn't play but club got promoted again. Clearly some agreement in place to sign at the end of the Premier League loan season so not sure that it really qualifies as a Championship signing. 2 - Ruben Neves - £15.4m (Wolves) Clearly a bargain. 3 - Britt Assombalonga - £14.7m (Middlesbrough) Performed very well although not enough to get them promoted and left for free. Probably say it wasn't value for money but how much that was down to his performances and how much down to the club overall is a moot point. 4 - Joao Carvalho - £12.9m (Nottingham Forest) Didn't get Forest promoted and suffered injuries. Left for an undisclosed fee. Probably not value for money but Forest did get promoted in his final season. Considering the fee was in 2021 too, I would say not value for money. 5 - Helder Costa - £12.9m (Wolves) Clearly great value. 6 - Ross McCormack - £12.3m (Aston Villa) Didn't work for him at Villa as they didn't get promoted and he left on a free at the end of his contract. 7 - Joel Piroe - £12m (Leeds United) Took 2 seasons to get them there but played regularly, scored plenty and got them promoted in their second season. 8 - Harry Wilson - £12m (Fulham) A regular who helped Fulham get promoted and remained a regular as they established themselves in the Premier League. Definitely value. 9 - Benik Afobe - £11.6m (Stoke City) Didn't work out for him. Not value for money and left on loan and then for an undisclosed fee. 10 - Jonathan Kodjia - £11m (Aston Villa) A good record at Villa and helped them to promotion after 3 seasons and played a small part as they established themselves back in the Premier League.

To be fair Afobe was sh!te at Stoke. McCormack was hopeless at Villa. Also some of these were nearly 10 years ago so would be a lot more in fees today. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Apart from Afobe, McCormack, Carvalho being complete flops of course.. and probabaly Assombalonga due to the price and the fact he left on a free.
