KM said, “Omari, with the speculation around his future at the moment, he didn’t feel mentally in the right place to come for the game."

Remember words can hurt and we don't know everything. In a country where men's mental health is damaging and killing men, perhaps we all need to take a breath and be more measured in our response. Remember that this is a sport we enjoy following, and while we may become tribal about the club, we must remember that we, like those employed by the club, are humans with complicated lives and different pressures and means of dealing with them.

Is he still going to be eligible for the U21s in the coming season?

I think so, see my post of 18:42 earlier this evening. No one has challenged that yet, which is a bit of a surprise considering how often I get the rules wrong.

No he doesn’t. Qualification is based on a full competition cycle, so that players who qualify/play for the team in the early qualifying game don’t become ineligible before the final. This is why you have 23yr olds who played in the 2025 U21 finals - the cycle began 2 years ago.

This cycle terminated on the conclusion of the 2025 U21s finals, so Omari no longer qualifies for the England U21s

I thought he did what with still being 21 at the start of this calendar year but being born on 30th October 2003 it looks like that doesn't apply:

'Players born on or after 1 January 2004 are eligible for the 2027 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.'

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/England_national_under-21_football_team#2027_UEFA_

Still, I have my doubts that he will be a candidate for the full England squad yet and regular football in the second tier would serve him better than a potential move to the top tier that didn't work out if, for example, Brentford couldn't get the best out of their system with his relative inexperience and they went a signed an older but more streetwise player in desperation to maintain their current high status.

But Omari has some wise footballing heads around him, both at the club and in his family. They will have a better idea of what is best for him and all the speculation on this thread is only that, but speculation about an important facet of the McKenna project. It's an interesting space to watch, isn't it ?

For me its nice to know KM is honest with the fans .

Wouldn’t - he doesn’t want to play to risk injury before a big move, have been more honest?

There’s no honesty in the statement at all, if it’s related to the Brentford move.., which it likely is.

Zero honesty in fact. People conflating it to mental health issues is projection.

It’s likely 100% related to him wanting to leave and that alone. That’s the reality.

Not in the right mental space = he doesn’t want to play. That’s (almost) certainly the case.

So let’s not project our own agendas and deal with the facts…, he’s leaving.

That doesn’t warrant any personal attacks, he’s been a wonderful player for us, and if he’s ambitious that’s fine…, but let’s not pretend it’s something that’s it’s not also.

He won’t have any issues when he pulls on a Brentford shirt in a week or two …, that’s the reality.

What does the "...," punctuation mean? I have never seen this before in my life.

Last year I had three weeks of redundancy meetings until it was confirmed. I'd been at that company for over twenty years and my last few weeks I was mentally in a bad place, but I still got to work and did the job, right up until the last day.
No-one said I could stay off work as I wasn't mentally in the right place.
I'm not going to post hateful comments but imam annoyed by players saying they're not mentally in the right place.
I am now gainfully employed at a better company and much happier nowadays.

We really need him to play on Friday now though and I wonder if McKenna has perhaps got that performance out of him now he has handled this situation deftly. For a prospective buyer, it's actually not a great look if you sulk out of the season opener - if he plays and scores against B'ham he is catching everyone's eyes on a night where there is no other football on and people are desperate for football
