ACL injuries 21:30 - Aug 7 with 945 views | FrimleyBlue | Is it me. Or does there seem to be an increase in acl injuries over the past few seasons Don't know it's just because injuries were just classed as knee injuries. Or media reports are more in depth now but there just seems to be acl issues everywhere and every season now Last year I understand there were 10 acl injuries.

Quite scary really. Who was the fella who worked for town who said something along the lines of the human body not made for football.

No clear reasons, contributory factors include increased speed of game, number of games/lack of rest, pitch technologies, boot technologies etc etc. in the women’s game there is a study underway to understand whether hormones/menstrual cycle may contribute to the timing of such injury.

I think it's true in all sports and athletics. People are pushing (and being pushed) more and more for those tiny increments of performance which will win races or beat the opposition. It is probably getting towards the limits of what the human body (unenhanced) can achieve.

Just seen that Levi Colwill suffered an ACL injury in his first Chelsea training session since club World Cup this week.

It’s been an ongoing debate here for a long time, with regards to youth sports and how it’s proven that kids who play multiple sports - and therefore use different muscles - suffer way way less injuries than kids who specialize in just one sport. Which from experience leads to coaches - at club and high school level - saying they want kids to play multiple sports…. Until someone is going to basketball instead of their football practice, and then the coaches aren’t so keen.

There's also more research being done into football boot functionality for women. Most women have played with men's boots, and even the so called women's boots on the market tend to be unisex rather than specifically designed for women. There was a suspicion that the boots were contributing to ACL injuries being so common in the women's game.

That was Lee O’Neil and he was mocked for saying so by many in here but he did, and still does, have a point.

I saw the Colchester players were playing padel as part of their pre-season training. I don't know if the courts were at their own training ground, but it seems most of the 'big clubs' do have them: https://www.thepadelclub.co.uk/news/padel-for-footballers
