Have slept on it….. 07:17 - Aug 9 with 1748 viewsZonderman

…here in a central Brum travelodge and there’s no change. Was really chuffed with a point last night and feel the same today.

Yes, the starting right side wasn’t great on the night and we could have been better in the middle of the park, but there were positives. Thought we were really solid at the back and O’Shea was an absolute man mountain. The reaction to the goal we conceded was typical and sees the continuation of the character we have come to expect in the new group.
Aside from taking the penalty superbly, Hirst worked tirelessly in that forward press all night.
Let’s remember it was an incredibly difficult draw to get that one in the opener. Players who under performed last night will do better. New signings will settle. Just be patient.
Fans fantastic last night.
Yes it was too frenetic a game as well poorly refereed but I loved it. A typical full
blooded Championship dust up with a brilliant late twist in our favour and a great atmosphere under the lights too. Think we’re going to enjoy this season a lot.

One of the nicest things last night was the realisation that once the penalty was awarded, that was it, no VAR, waiting 5 mins, ref going over to a screen etc. Simply whistle blown, decision made.

I’m sure it will count against us later in the season, but that’s part of the game.

Shove on O'Shea for the non-penalty frustrating though. I do wonder if thats why he was so quick to give the handball.

Both would have been pens with VAR, but the one he did give was the weaker of the two.

Poll: Is it more annoying when builders

I did wonder that as it was straight in front of him (the shove)

That one would’ve taken FOREVER!

8 minutes added time would’ve turned into 18!

Poll: So, how many league wins did you see in person?

"We just want the correct decision [who cares how we get there?]"

Is what everyone said pre-Var. Idiots.

Poll: Pick a goal to win the derby in stoppage time...

In many ways, it was the perfect starting game for our boys. The digging in, the drama, the mele at the end, I'm sure will galvanise the team, bring them closer and into focus. Having seen the two big decisions over a few times now, I feel the referee got them right in my mind. A very valuable night. Onward and upward. COYB !

The one he gave was surely too close. But as you say O’Shea earlier 100% was .., refreshing not to have the VAR disruptions.

A poor and fussy ref. But poor for both sides, so can’t complain. More enjoyable to watch than a game stopping every 5 seconds and still getting big decisions wrong, worrying about the media reaction if it’s a big club and the unconscious bias.

But the ref was not looking at it, his eyes were to the right
