You and others keep saying things like this, as if the last two Championship seasons haven't happened.

Twice in a row teams have missed out with record points totals on top two, and neither Leeds nor Sheff Utd made it up in the play offs.

You must surely realise that points in August count the same as those in April right?!

And you must realise that there’s still 45 games left for countless other things to happen and situations change, rather than the handful left in April, right?

Same points, completely different context and situation.

Lol, 7 at best,

So that means they need to win another 2 matches, and we have to lose 2 as well, for them to be better off than we are now. Have a word with yourself Bill!

Little bit early to give up. There is a lot of talk about Leicester players leaving as well as ours. Judge squads in early September not now.

Oops I haven't thought of that, thanks

Sh1t, Leicester just scored, can’t believe it’s cost us promotion, in 9 months.

Can’t believe it. End the season now, no point carrying on.

What I realise is, there has been a cigarette paper between the top 3/4 in the last two seasons, so 2 extra points gained by Saints and Leics in August will likely (in my opinion) be material come end of the season.

It's a question of maths surely not seasonality?!

Oh bless, you’re a bit precious aren’t you.

I couldn’t care less about an apology either way, and doubt very much the Bannon sending off changed the outcome as Leicester were odds on to win but the fact that this is the keyboard battle you’re choosing to fight today is fantastically entertaining.

Agree on the latter, there are a few here who have no sense of humor and are so easy to have fun with the OP being classic,
We won't know if bannan on or off would have made a difference but he is their leader,

do you think points at home to sheff wednesday may possibly be easier to get than those away at brum (or v wrexham for that matter)? it's a question of difficulty surely?!

i'd say we're a point better than par, leicester are par (maybe less gd than expected!)

Apologies if I'm being a bit slow but I'm not sure I understand the point you're making here.

If it's that those two have had easier games, then yes I would absolutely agree with that.

What's the second part? Are you disagreeing with me in that I think it would be better that two of our likely promotional rivals had two points less at the end of the season?!

Let’s compare a 2 point gap gained with 45 games to go (now) vs 10 games to go (end March/April)

Let’s look at the statistical analysis as it’s also about how much “noise” is still left in the season. With 45 games to go, there’s so much variance in results that a 2-point gap is tiny in statistical terms – it’s about the same as flipping a coin and calling heads slightly early.

With only 10 games left, there’s far less time for random swings, so the same 2-point gap is proportionally much bigger. In fact, a 2-point lead with 10 games left is roughly as valuable as a 4-point lead in August. That’s why timing matters as much as the raw points gap.

It’s basic Standard Deviation, assuming a draw rate of ~27% which tends to be the average.

So yes, it is a question of maths.

i'm saying that if you're expected to win by a cricket score and you actually win 2-1, that's not really something to crow about.

if you're more likely to lose (as we were against brum) and you get a point then it's a net gain of 1 for us

of course, it'd be lovely if sheff wed had held on, but that was always vanishing unlikely!
