Well, quite! Can't that be said for any manager, at almost any time?

I think it will determine his legacy, though.

Hes done a lot right, but last year really grounded the absolute OTT hero worship. He's a lot to learn and he needs ti start showing he can steer a team through adversity - something hes been unable to do so far in his managerial career.

Between December and February we in 2023/2024 we won 1 game in 9 and I remember a lot of panic around that. We then swung it back and won 9 in 10 to take us back in to the top 2.

tbf hes got 4 months to determine his short term reputation to those in the prem

had a torrid time last season, hes got all the finances needed to be top 2 this season, if he struggles all that effort from 2023 is down the drain

Hie legacy will always be as the manager who gave us back to back promotions with some of the most entertaining football I have ever seen.

Not sure I agree completely. We had sticky patches midway through both promotion campaigns which we overcame and flourished. I do think this season is the toughest of his career so far though. Same expectation as our league one promotion campaign in a much tougher division.

Yep.

Very selective memory from some supporters.

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

As I’ve previously said, American business is pretty unforgiving. My guess would be he’s got this season to get us back up and if he doesn’t he’s gone.

The only way he’s gone at Xmas is if we have an absolute car crash between now and then, which I can’t see personally but stranger things have happened I guess!

Oh, I agree. The OP was stating that the next 4 months would decide his future. I'm just saying if he now has a disastrous 4 months, that would clearly taint his legacy. He did brilliantly in his first 2 years, if he did badly up to Christmas this year, that would be almost 18 months of poor results. That wouldn't be acceptable by anybodys standards.

None of it matters anyway, as this is all in the land of make-belief, at the moment!

Funny how it works isn't it.

See also the League one season post the Bristol Rovers game. We were down and out, looked like we were in danger of missing the playoffs and that was also turned around.

That’s always been the case, always has been and is the same for every manager in the country. Leicester got rid of Ranieri, Chelsea sacked Mourinho and there are numerous other examples.

When he’s come through this challenging spell in his time here, which he will do, and he’s linked to established Premier League clubs again, those who doubt him now and are starting to be vocal in their criticism will be the first to question his loyalty. It’s two way. I said when he signed a new contract last summer that I’d happily keep with him for 10 years regardless of where we were. I maintain that now.

Poll: Most enjoyable calendar year as an Ipswich supporter
