This is perhaps very naive of me 12:53 - Aug 13 with 734 views | Illinoisblue | But do players ever put in official transfer requests now? Or is it all conducted via agent leaks to the media etc?

So they try not to. This is, I understand, what Isak is doing at Newcastle - trying to force a transfer while not putting in a request and lowering his personal remuneration.
This is perhaps very naive of me on 12:58 - Aug 13 with 676 views | tonybied | Doesn't really seem to be the case anymore. R5 were saying this about Isak last night when I popped to the shop. I think players and agents are just wise to the fact that the agent can do some groundwork, whilst the player makes a nuisance of themselves, and they'll likely get their move without having to forfeit any money, like they would if they asked for a transfer.

Perhaps contract terms will start to change.... these are essentially contractors offering a service for x number of years now.... if contract not completed then surely there must be a compensation/ penalty for early termination...... my broadband provider can help make it stick !!

No, they don't. As stated above, putting in a formal transfer request impacts on any monies that may be owed to them from the club as part of the transfer.

Think they used to lose their "loyalty bonus" whatever that was/is. Presume there's something in the T&Cs that if they don't specifically ask for a transfer, they're due a certain percentage of remaining contract or similar.

Yes. Hence Isak said he 'would like to consider his options'. Rather than, I would like a transfer.

Yes - a large piece of signing bonus is often spread over the terms of the contract, and by asking to leave, that portion of compensation is sacrificed. No different to how large companies offer execs Long Term Incentive bonuses which are shares which mature over the upcoming 3 years (33% of shares are released each year), but if you resign you sacrifice this aspect of your bonuses, however if you are made redundant you can retain (but still vested for future dates).
