Oh yes, clearly, there's no other possible explanation.

Give me a break.

Do you live in the clouds? What else do you think ‘political based’ is referring to?

Why is a player that signed for beach football fc having a say, or being listened to, or relevant at all?

Made his bed when he decided his contract, that he’s signed, wasn’t good enough for him.

I’m an ITFC fan, not a player specific fan.

Exactly this. Annoyed me more than anything this summer that he’s spending his time sticking that on social media when the club has let him go and earn a fortune.

Mention this however, and the fan boys become VERY angry.

I'm not sure how else to see it - why stick his oar in in the first place when it's obvious it's been a delicate dance on both sides? He spends three sentences (quite long on X) describing what it's like when a club no longer wants you (which is patently not the case with Hutchinson, McKenna has made that very clear). And he keeps repeatedly talking about 'the club' when it must be obvious to someone of his experience that the post itself is hardly likely to help 'the club' with the current negotiations.

That doesn’t make any sense to me. He’s got no reason to have beef with the club. He’s consistently said he had the best time of his career here, got on well with the staff and we’ve just let him walk away from his contract for one last bigger pay day. He’s got no obvious reason to have issues with us.

His tweet is simply stating how things can sometimes end up from the player’s perspective in general terms, not specific to Omari (as you say).

Ever since Morsy made the offhand remark, a few months back, about himself having a better wins record as captain of the team than O'Shea, I felt there was an underlying resentment building.
Perhaps he had been told that he wouldn't be a guaranteed starter in the Championship this season as the club looked to rebuild (targetting Hackney, Ruiz, maybe looking at Morton or Brownhill at the time, as well as Matusiwa) & that Dara O'Shea was going to captain even if he was staying at the club, as a squad player.
Of course I may be reading far too much into that comment, but I did highlight it at the time (as did a couple of others) as an uncharacteristically pointed remark, not said in an obviously jovial manner, and unfortunately, everything that has happened since then would only support the notion that Morsy felt let down & didn't want to sit on the bench with the armband taken from him.

In his defence (not that he needs it), he’s talking about former team mates and colleagues, so he’s got more right or insight than any of us. You don’t have to listen to him or comment on threads about him. It’s not compulsory. I’m not overly fussed myself, but maybe he’ll let slip a nugget about how things work on the inside.

I suspect you are right and it’s how I read it. A general comment from players’ perspective. We all know Morsy did brilliantly for this club and the club did brilliantly for him. But anll good things come to an end.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion but whatever beef he may or may not have with ITFC, or individuals within it, he’d have been well advised to not comment publicly on it or anything ITFC. Not for a while anyway.

Morsy didn’t say anything people didn’t already know. There was nothing to be gained by throwing in his two pennyworth so why bother?

Good thread this.

Morsy spent some of his farewell message describing how he'd wanted to stay but terms couldn't be agreed. He spoke of professionalism and respect from both sides, so I don't believe it's transparent that this is thinly veiled criticism influenced by his own exit. He's asked in replies if he witnessed any of this bad behaviour from Town and confirms he didn't (according to a post earlier in the thread). Would be a shame if he does have a small axe to grind, beyond some natural disappointment.

I think it's just as plausible that he was motivated to post after reading negative fan reaction, to steer opinions in a more sympathetic direction and stick up for his mate/colleague. Personally I quite like to see an ex-player participate in discussion like this, even if I'm not fully aligned with their take. Shows they haven't severed the connection, and Morsy's a club legend in the eyes of many. Didn't mind Butcher weighing in with the opposite take either.

It's pretty clear that there was something of a disagreement with the club and / or he felt snubbed. That can be true at the same time as the fact that there remains huge respect between both and we made a classy gesture to waive any transfer fee.

They both conducted themselves well and parted on good terms, I think there was too much respect for that not to happen, but it's clear to me that Sam felt for whatever reason he hadn't been offered what he felt he should have.

If you look at KM's words, there was every intention and belief that Sam would be here this season. That only really started to be questioned fairly recently. I suspect Sam wanted the new contract and / or a guarantee of game time and the club, looking ahead, wanted to protect itself and wouldn't commit.

It was a good move for all in reality probably but it does reveal the challenge of this summer. We're having to make big decisions and build a new team.

I would have personally broken whatever internal rules we have to keep him but suspect Ashton stuck to his guns.

Fair play that Broady came on against Birm but are we ignoring that he called in sick on the morning of the cup game?

I've been confused by this too. If anything Broady faking an illness* on the day of a match is worse than Omari's actions. At least with Omari McKenna knew he wouldn't be available.

McKenna would have built his game plan and had to switch it up last minute. Not ideal preparation at all, and with hindsight I'd say we'd have played a lot better with Broady starting compared to Jack Clarke.

*Assuming it was a fake illness given he looked pretty healthy in the training pic.

I actually disagree. I wouldn’t have broken whatever rules there might have been for Morsy or anyone else. You make yourself a real problem doing that, further down the line if not sooner with other players.

I get he was a lynchpin of the team and playing staff. I’d go so far as to say the loss of him might well make the difference between a good and a bad season. But I still wouldn’t break ‘the rules’ for him. Madness? Possibly, because I do get the counter argument.

Morsy represented the past, not the future. His powers are on the wane and it wouldn’t surprise me if his influence on the other players hadn’t waned too after last season’s debacle. Let’s face it, with a midfield that didn’t exist beyond 20 mins of any game it must have been hard for him as captain to point the finger at other players.

If Morsy didn’t want to stay on the basis of terms offered and what others were offering, fair enough. Disappointing, but at least the club did right by not demanding a fee which clearly helped him get a better deal out of the money soaked Kuwait mob.

Where you are right is that this situation is an indicator of the problems this summer and the challenge of building a new team - and boy do we need it. Internally, I get a feeling that the playing staff fractured second half of the season. ‘It’s him not me’. ‘We maybe cr@p, but that’s others. I’m too good for this backwater’. ‘Get me to a decent club where my superior skills will shine - and more money’ etc etc. The risks of team sport.

That is a tough suggestion and maybe totally wrong, but all was clearly not happy within the squad and I suspect still isn’t. This is where McKenna, his staff, CEO, owners need to show their metal.

I’d liked Morsy to have stayed. But working with McKenna and for the club’s future and potentially his own once he finishes playing. Wishful thinking. If he decided on a new challenge and to fill his boots with as much dough as possible while he can player, fair enough. I totally respect that, just as I do the club’s position on it.

Internal rules, whatever they may be - if you alter them for one, you surely have to alter them for all or alternatively say thanks and good luck. Players, owners and managers come and go. Only the hard core supporters stay.
