Both are needed but for me, a centre midfield player who has some physicality and forward drive. Maybe Cajuste has that in his locker but I don't see it in Matusiwa. Don't get me wrong, he's a good purchase and I can already see what he offers but forward drive, probably not. Deep down, probably I still want us to play three in midfield I guess. |  |

Midfield was not the problem today. We won almost everything there Matusiwa won almost everything and was beginning to play some lovely forward passes the he was taken off the pitch for some reason. Our problem is the front four. Woeful today

A creative midfielder. Somebody to knit the defence to attack. We are lacking creativity in the middle. 4-3-3 would be best system for us, in my personal opinion. 5 defend, 5 attack. Sometimes the simplistic method is the best. |  |

They would be first on the team sheet for almost all clubs in this division. I doubt we can sign anyone who would be a significant improvement on them at least on paper.
They just need to get back match fit and into winning habits.

Hirst might have had his worse game today. And I really rate him normally.
If, given the money we have, can’t get an improvement on Hirst, that’s a worry. Considering we are seemingly looking worldwide, you can’t tell me £7/8/9/10m doesn’t get an upgrade. | |

Out of those options, a striker 100%. The more I think about it and seeing him today the more I think Akpom isn't really going to be used as a no.9. Hirst gets injured and we are royally bug*ered.

Actually I think Taylor is the problem. His style of play is closer to Matusiwa than Cajuste, so the starting line up today lacked someone to link the different units down the flanks or between midfield and up front.
I like Taylor but he’s been reasonably anonymous so far this season. | | | |

A physical striker, like Delap, but playing alongside Hirst i.e. a change of system (4-2-2-2 ?) and that means dropping one of Philogene, Smozdics or Jack Clarke (if we start with the line up we had today but you can consider Chaplin and McAteer also) and my idea I think needs the discarding of the Szmozdics/Chaplin option most of the time.
