Too many fullbacks and wingers 12:49 - Aug 28 with 830 viewsBouncebackIpswich

Davis, Townsend, Clarke, Johnson, Young, Furlong.

Even with Townsend and Clarke out isn't this just stockpiling in a position which is hardly the most important on the pitch

Clarke, Szmodics, Akpom, Philogene, Burns, Mcateer, all competing for 2 spots as well. With Egeli possibly to come in! That's 7 players that can all play on the wing!

Feels like we have an embarrassment of riches out wide while in the spine of the team we are light?

We have frequently been in a position where we've had lots of wingers/forwards. It is integral to how KMC wants to play. We have to be able to swap the whole front line in matches.

I don't get the imbalance though, we have 4 senior CMs, a position where you tend to get many injuries and 1 injury prone target man up front (Akpom arguably cover) what happens if we pick up injuries in the spine of the team, we'll conceivably be down to the bare bones whilst having 6/7 fullbacks and wingers on the bench, just seems odd planning to me.

We currently have two fit full backs, one of whom is 40, and a makeshift full back in Johnson. What are you on about?

You can't conflate fbs with wingers either!

Probably best to be sure where players actually play before getting your knickers in a twist.

so 4 fit full backs competing for 2 positions? seems about right

8 wingers/10s competing for 3 positions? it's what we've always had, given that 6 play almost every game

we may have to offload in january if clarke, burns and townsend return, but i think we're about right as things stand for the august squad

Poll: do you do judo and/or do you do voodoo?

Bumping this. Why do we need so many right backs. Why did we need mcateer or for that matter Ashley Young AND Furlong. Bizarre couldn't we have kept Chappers and Lose a sodding right back.

Fuming at the mess that's being made of this club.
