These valuations of WSL teams are just fraudulent now? on 12:59 - Aug 28 with 757 views | Swansea_Blue | It’s corrupt. We’ve just had our first £1M women’s signing this summer, yet somehow West Ham’s team is worth over £50M and Chelsea’s was valued at £245 in a recent equity sale. [Post edited 28 Aug 14:39]

Clubs jumping on the current growth on the women’s game to maximise profits & spend it elsewhere in the business & the section that actually makes money. PSR is horse sh1t.

These valuations of WSL teams are just fraudulent now? on 13:09 - Aug 28 with 613 views | Bellevue_Blue | It's absolutely farcical. The Chelsea sale was even worse. They sold their womens team to another of their owned businesses for £198.7m following revenues of £11.5M for the financial year ended June 30, 2024. So an almost 20X revenue multiple which is completely unheard of anywhere. When Chelsea were sold to Todd Boehly (and Clearlake Capital in May 2022), they had a revenue of £500million. They were sold for £2.5billion so the multiplier there was five. With Manchester United, it was probably closer to seven when Sir Jim Ratcliffe made his investment. It's just blatant manipulation and no one seems to have any control over it. [Post edited 28 Aug 13:10]

There is literally no way they will ever make any money back on that. Average attendances in the Women's Super League dropped by 10% last season to 6,662 compared with the previous campaign. They will need attendances and broadcast figures that rival the Championship to even get close to making any ROI.

Chelsea sold their women's club to themselves for £200m. They justified it by persuaded someone with too much money to buy a 10% stake for £20m. Villa have done similar.

Similar to the Women’s NBA over here which is propped up by the men’s game and would almost certainly wither and die if it had to fend for itself.

I don’t think it will explode. I can’t see it getting any bigger. Crowds were down last season in the WSL. It’s a different sport altogether. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Yeah, Chelsea’s valuation is nuts (I missed the last 5 off above). £245M can’t in any way be realistically justified.
