Will take a few weeks still 17:45 - Aug 30 with 1548 viewsNutkins_Return

This is very similar to the new Cook era with so many new players and building a new team. I fully expect McKenna to get them telling quicker but it will take a few weeks for absolute sure. Hang in there everyone. We might be gunning for the playoffs this year though.

This team will come together though!

That was the excuse used last season but we got progressively worse. Then the narrative changed again.

It was and was probably the case as well, but it never happened did it and I think it was quite clear quality wise we were not there.

Won't be that excuse this time. We will need to keep improving. Weirdly we have to a degree but not results.

Idgaf about the gelling excuses.

Derby had as many new players as us on the pitch, they almost stole all 3.

Sunderland in the PL has what 6? 7? new players in their starting XI they aren't doing too poorly are they?

Also, I'd rather play ugly and steal the points rather than trying to play total football and lose / draw. You get the idea.

Let me just check how that panned out with Mick Mccarthy quickly....oh....yep.

True on Sunderland. Certainly bought better than us it looks. But Brentford have had a big turnover as well and lost their best players by a mile.

We should have more points. No debate.

There's a massive difference between us with with the way we play and Derby. Our play is complex whereas Derby just lump it, waste time and spoil everything they can. Some of our new players haven't had any pre-season at all.

But Cajuste... what a joy to watch at times.

We were arguably dominant today, but lacked the end product. This is the momentum/attacking threat chart for today’s game.

I mentioned at half time that we needed to be sharper up front. Maybe clinical is more accurate. Hirst has many positive attributes, but he’s not a ‘natural’ finisher imo, unlike Delap. We need someone else leading the line, with Hirst playing cameos later in the game.

If we continue to present so much attacking threat in games, and add that cutting edge in front of goal, then we’ll begin to see positive results. With the new signings we have tools to achieve this.

Whilst I do tend to agree, it is frustrating that other teams seem to be able to completely refresh their squads and are able to “gel” straight away. Didn’t Derby have 8 new summer signings in their team today?

As others have alluded, the sharp passing exchanges with a lot of movement to rip opponents defensive structures apart that KMc is teaching this new group, is going to take a bit more time than your bog standard Championship discipline to get working smoothly.

There were some patches of play first half yesterday which showed what we will become. Just as with the transfer window, we need to have a little patience, hard as that might be for some.

I mean, it's a completely different situation. Diametrically opposite.

We were certainly dominant. Up front, we look like all of our forward players, particularly Hirst, but all of them really are feeling the pressure of not getting off to a fast start in the league. Mostly they just need to relax a little and enjoy the flow and let their capabilities come through.

I think the general team performance has got better of the course of these 4 games. Derby just stifled us yesterday and we had no end product to finish some chances we created. We have been lacking proper forwards for a while now, but hopefully with what we have now, so can get everyone firing.
