Wingers, sorry a moan 20:09 - Aug 30 with 733 views | BouncebackIpswich | First things first absolutely delighted by that last min penalty felt like a moral victory over a team of absolute shouses. Well done Jack Clarke for stepping up under huge pressure. Now that's said I'm really fed up at the winger options we have recruited at great expense yet seem to clearly be the weakest part of the team and actually letting down the rest of the side despite having the most invested into it. Here's a summary: Jack Clarke - played ok today but has been doggo and even when on form is extremely one dimensional Philogene - plays like a youth team player, not ready for first team football Ogbene - out all last season with an ACL now available for loan after a handful of games back. What a disaster of a signing. Mcateer - is workmanlike and not much more, technically deficient, no flair, and I can say this having watched him for years as. Leicester fan. 12 million pounds on what planet? Divide that by ten and you've still arguably overpaid. Egeli - let's bloody hope he is as good as the hype to start to make up for the rest of them. For all that money spent I'd much rather we played the limited Burns if he was available. Ps sure I will get a deluge of downvotes but surely this monumenal waste of money has to be called out. Wingers, sorry a moan on 20:17 - Aug 30 with 669 views | SuperKieranMcKenna | Thought that was one of Clarke’s better performances for a while - perhaps he’ll be better off the bench against tiring opposition. Philogene is a feel frustration - clearly some talent there but he’s not producing end product. Where’s the Jaden who was great at beating his man for Hull. Today , rather than trying to take on the defenders, constantly looked to pass backwards. Ogbene looks better than McAteer from what I’ve seen so far. Mcateer works hard but doesn’t look brilliant technically (especially given the size of the fee). It’s early days so he deserves time but doesn’t look like an upgrade as yet.
Wingers, sorry a moan on 20:30 - Aug 30 with 634 views | TheGentlemanViking | I'll reserve judgement of McAteer for now, although it was great to see one of our wingers work the line and get a few crosses in (even if the crosses were poor). Philogene is the one that really irks me. Slows everything down, great feet, but absolutely no desire to take a man on or get a cross in, everything has to come back inside. Which is very much the Jack Clarke way, but Jack does it with a degree of pace that Jaden seemingly doesn't have. We were so effective with Lief on one side and Wes on the other taking players on and getting balls across the box, I'm not really sure why we've changed, but it's definitely not for the better.

I agree with this. We're much better with wingers that get behind teams and can go down the line and cut back rather than inverting wingers cutting in and cramming the space even more. Not sure why KM can't seem to see that.

That’s how I see it tbh. If you’re facing a low block, the last thing you want are wingers who cut in and go into traffic. It’s exactly what the opposition want. I don’t know anything about the Norwegian lad and I’ll reserve judgement on Mcateer, but Wes is the only wide man we have who wants to take his full back on on the outside

Wingers, sorry a moan on 20:46 - Aug 30 with 537 views | LegendofthePhoenix | I too applaud Jack Clarke for stepping up to take the pen - it was a high pressure pen and he took it really well. That said I thought he was very poor yet again today. He is just soooo predictable. Abssolutely every time he gets the ball he does the same thing cut in, runs across from left to right across the penalty area and just runs in to traffic because every opponent knows precisely what he does. So the ball then gets either laid off to whoever is further out right, or he just runs into someone and loses possession. Its boring and inevitable, it's one trick pony stuff, and it's been found out. What's happened to the Jack Clarke we heard about who like to have the chalk on his boots? No one goes down the wings any more. Leif seems afraid to go wide and cross, is he still hurting from the criticisms of Danny Murphy? The bravery McKenna spoke about during our double promotions is missing now, we need to stretch teams down the wings and then cross or cut it back for the central players. Why is McKenna playing it so conservative now?

Wingers, sorry a moan on 21:02 - Aug 30 with 488 views | Garv | Clarke has been largely poor, but looks a hundred times more useful than Philogene. It's like we've bought an 800m Olympic athlete with him, not a footballer. He's built like a stick, and I'm sure his running/pressing is very good, but he runs down blind alleys for fun. He is offering nothing in terms of attacking or creative spark and hasn't since he joined. Doesn't seem to have much technique when it comes to crossing or shooting, lacks conviction in so many aspects. Really puzzling one, I'd love to know what Hull fans think about his current situation. Felt a bit for Clarke today, he was clearly our main hope for getting something going as he was given the ball at every opportunity and was expected to run with it and do something when there was little going on elsewhere, which he did a couple of times but didn't have much space to work with. Fair play to him though, firstly for stepping up and secondly for planting it in the top corner. Great pen. On a separate subject I like the look of Azon and Akpom, the latter in particular.

I think MacAteer showed signs of being a Burns replacement at times today. He is at least a right footer playing on the right wing, so to an extent he doesn't have a choice but to go on the outside. Look forward to seeing how Egeli shapes up, have to hope he can be direct but he is another inverted one.

Applaud a massive let down - having paid 15m for him to grow some balls and take a pen…? Wtf is he being applauded for taking a pen? Paid 40k a week to kick a ball from 12 yards at a goal? And probably in doing so - claim another 10k goal bonus…..? What a f’ing hero he was today - to get a 2-2 draw against a shot team. Jeez - we’ve got a weak expectation of what is tiring out to be a shower of a squad. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Wingers, sorry a moan on 02:45 - Aug 31 with 183 views | Westcountryblue | OP is pretty spot on to be honest. Going forward, i'd like to see Clarke in his best position. Thought he was very good when he came on yesterday, taking on players and running at team. Caused problems. McAteer, as you suggest, looked limited. We really miss Burns and the genuine width he gives us.
