Can see both getting regular starts before too long.
Both looked quite handy yesterday, Akpom especially. Azon won the knock down for the penalty (or at least challenged the CB well enough so he couldn't properly clear), he's a bigger unit that I was expecting. Maybe harsh on Hirst, hopefully that was just an off day for him.
Akpom looked a class apart almost instantly to me. Decisive in his passing, aggressive, happy to run with the ball and he was coming really deep in the last few minutes to get the ball of the CBs, effectively as a playmaker. Unlucky with his run and shot over the bar on his weaker side. Promising.

Hell of a job for McKenna to get them familiar with each other and and finding those patterns.

You could argue he showed 'something' by stepping up to take that penalty, and then slotting it right in the top corner.
He does at least get on the ball and run at defenders. |

And yet the xG was ~3, way higher than every other game except Bristol, who scored 4 with an xG of 3.5.
The non-penalty xG was only 0.7 lower, still higher by some margin than almost all other teams yesterday. And when did set-piece goals become worth less than open play goals? | | | |
