First match was in 94 so a bit before my time, but intrigued as to why you wouldn't just watch us for free from there?

Probably because it cost the equivalent of a cup of tea to get in.

I think I remember that view, but could be my mind playing tricks. If it was before mid-70s then I don’t.

What's Paul Mariner doing standing out there? He should be on the pitch bullying [insert unknown name of Norwich defender of that era here, or were they second division then?]

Cos the gates were closed so you wouldn't get that view on match day

It’s on the Ipswich Society FB page and says

David Steward took a short series of monochrome photographs. He says, as a teenager, probably some time between about 1976 and 1979, he walked around Ipswich with his SLR camera. Donated to the Ipswich Society in May 2024.

It certainly rings bells. Presumably it’s from behind the North Stand. I’m sure you could see through to the ground. We used to sometimes go down and watch the training on the pitch at the side.

Remember it well. It was probably the first year I had a season ticket in 1977. TWTD.

Back in the early 70s we used to play in the Boys Brigade League on Saturday afternoons. Our captain used to drop us off so we could run in and see the last 20 or so minutes of the game. Ahhh....memories.
