I've vaguely heard of this, but must admit that I am completely ignorant of the context. I just checked and it seems there are about 50 murders in the US every day. Why is this particular one being mentioned so much? I can understand the public interest of the awful Charlie Kirk murder for example, but why this one?

That wasn't a murder that was him making the ultimate stand for his beliefs.

I appreciate logic and reason have no place in American politics, but I'd be interested to know how that incident justifies removing public transport subsidies.

If poor people can't access or afford to use buses they can't get murdered on them.

The only place he'll get 100k a week plus which I can understand as being appealing. Even it's effectively ending his career.

I’m not sure what’s going on here other than the murder of a young woman appears to be being used to justify something, or make a point bout something?

It’s a horrible attack. It was on the BBC within 24 hrs (of him being charged, not the event just for clarity). I’m not sure how it’s not been mentioned.

Ok, ignore me. I’ve watched it now and it’s a bunch of right wing tw*ts on a podcast using the murder of a young woman to attack “the left”, “democrats”, ‘mainstream media’, and drawing false comparisons with George Floyd. Stelios Panagiotou is particularly interested in polarising this into a left v right issue whoever he is.

The main issue in that case is, once again, lack of adequate* mental healthcare provision in the USA.

* As opposed to filling children full of pills. As happened to a friend of mine. Took years and moving to the UK to sort her out.

I’ve only watched the linked video, so obviously have a warped understanding of what went on (how do people watch and, even worse, believe that crap?). Mental health was raised a few times but not beyond he should have been locked up indefinitely. That doesn’t fit well with me but is a compelling argument when someone has just killed, so I can see why people are convinced by it.

I’m assuming mental health problems can often be cured, so they’re in a bad place if they’ve not got a good record. Especially as the richest country of the world; they’ve got no excuses.
