I'll never grow up, will I? 16:02 - Sep 15 with 3258 views | NthQldITFC | I've just spent a glorious quarter of an hour bunging - well spinning like a well-thrown rugby ball - acorns up into the howling wind over the river and marvelling at how they retain their upright spinning form as they get buffeted around in all directions. This sort of thing makes me happy. What sort of things like this make you happy?

I'll never grow up, will I? on 16:12 - Sep 15 by WeWereZombies | I made oatmeal porridge this morning, after remembering to measure out the right weight of oatmeal and the right amount of milk for it to soak overnight in yesterday evening. Before I got it on the go I had boiled an equivalent amount of hot water and used that to rinse out the last remains from a pot of honey, which it did very efficiently, and that brought the already heating oatmeal mixture along to the boil nice and quickly. Once on the boil I stirred away for four minutes, reducing the heat every thirty seconds but keeping it on the boil, then left it on the cooling hob for another minute. Transferring the saucepan to different areas of the stainless steel draining board for nicely controlled cooling down some more I even remembered that I had some blackberries picked a couple of days ago so a couple of dozen of those went in. Porridge heaven. |
I completely relate to this.

I'll never grow up, will I? on 18:07 - Sep 15 by Hugoagogo_Reborn | The sound of the wind blowing through reeds on a marshland My dog having dreams and doing little puppy whimpers Silence in my flat when there is a brief pause in traffic Babies laughing. |
Speaking of which I can still vividly remember the silence during the first lockdown. I thought we lived in a fairly quiet spot already, but it was bliss. No cars mainly. I used to work and travel a lot in remote places and hadn’t realised how much I missed being somewhere almost completely free of humans’ noise. We all need to find a few moments of peace now and then.

I'll never grow up, will I? on 07:40 - Sep 16 with 370 views | Bluesky | At the brink of sunset, after a bitch of a day in the surgery, rolling out of an aeroplane at 10,000 feet, relaxing into 50 seconds of freefall facing the setting sun and its repertoire of pinks reds and purples, then two minutes of total isolated peace under canopy before a pint of Adnams in the pub having totally forgotten all the trials of the working day.
I'll never grow up, will I? on 07:51 - Sep 16 with 312 views | Bluebell | I can never resist picking up conkers if I see them on the ground. Three years ago I was walking to a game with my son. Unusual as I am normally with Mr BB. We saw some conkers on the ground along Russell Road (I think that is the road leading up to the Sir Alf stand). We picked one each up and then went to the game which Ipswich won. We called them our lucky conkers and I took mine to every game after that. That was the year we were promoted. Last Friday before the game I picked one up from the same place and we all know the result! I will have it in my pocket on Saturday.

Whenever I walk past, I can't resist tip-toeing along it to see if I can make it from one end to the other.

I'll never grow up, will I? on 07:30 - Sep 16 by Churchman | There was a pub in Nottingham called The Trip To Jerusalem (I believe it’s still there). My mum used to frequent it with her chums when she was in the ATS at the end of the war. Apparently the whores would write their prices on the soles of their shoes. Just thought you should know …. Anyhow, things I never tire of: That first beer on holiday. I always do that thing from Ice Cold in Alex where John Mills runs his finger down the condensation on the glass before the first taste. What a moment. I’ve given up skiing now, but finding a spot high in the mountains where I’m totally alone. I would stand there and listen to the deafening silence while gazing out on the majesty of nature. Mesmerising and addictive. Parked up on the settee with my black cat curled next to me using my leg as a pillow and quietly purring and rumbling away. [Post edited 16 Sep 8:00]

You must be very supple if you can use your leg as a pillow...and then be content enough to purr and rumble away...

Ha!! In my dreams and any form of supple is a thing of distant memory as my appalling golf will testify. Nah I crumple on the settee, Ches the cat does the tough work of relaxing, snoozing and purring as only a cat can
