Just got back to Edinburgh from Blackburn 21:56 - Sep 20 with 2258 views | ArnoldMoorhen | My thoughts: That was moderate rain in the first half, and fairly heavy rain in the Second Half. It was nowhere near the heaviest rain that I have experienced in the UK. Blackpool and Burnley both played at home today and completed their matches. This also happened last season at a match at Ewood Park against Portsmouth on 23rd November 2024, and the match was abandoned before Kick Off. If they have to replay the match over 90 minutes then Blackburn aren't "unlucky". Having had it happen before, they should have invested in proper drainage.

Take a detour off the A74M by Moffat to the Devil's Beeftub nearby and you'll overlook a beautiful valley and, if you are lucky, might catch a glimpse of a Golden Eagle.

Cobbold/South corner is particularly problematic. Lack of investment could have impacted their ability to manage this issue, and given the history with the Venkys, it really wouldn't be surprising if they haven't dealt with any pitch flooding issues

That's their problem then. I appreciate you're not saying it isn't by the way.

I’m sure that there could be some improvements made there, although as per Rotherham, they are right beside a river. While there seems to be standards set in relation to under soil heating, drainage and pitch coverings should also have equal importance.

I'm not asking for a points deduction or a fine. Just for: The match to be replayed on a playable pitch. And Blackburn not to whinge at having to replay it. The idea that the result could stand, to Ipswich's disadvantage, when Blackburn are the team with the obligation to provide a playable pitch (and two similar sized clubs in the area managed to do so) and this is the second time that they have failed to do so for this reason inside a year, is unfair. Blackburn should not gain a competitive advantage from failing to provide a pitch which can cope with a persistent, but not cataclysmic, downpour.

I came home that way tonight - pitch black, peeing down, blawin' a hoolie..., but it does look nice in the daylight when it's sunny!

Yes. But it still wouldn't change that the match should be replayed.

Yeah whether we were 4- zip up or down, a game is for 90 minutes and it should be completed in its entirety. Who knows we might have got a point today in the end or they might have scored again but theres no finality current so needs to be replayed.

At their ground? Yes! Because then they would have gained a competitive advantage from failing to provide a playable pitch. At our ground? We would be annoyed, but ultimately it would have been our club that failed to provide a pitch adequate for a sport played in the winter in the UK. It was persistent rain, but I have been in much, much heavier downpours. The Amber Warning (not Red) applied from 9am on Saturday, with the advisory notes stating that the heaviest rainfall would be during the later hours of Saturday and on Sunday morning. It wasn't once in a decade rainfall. And during the match it varied from moderate but persistent to moderately heavy, in my meteorologically unqualified opinion.
