This was a bit bizarre.

FA Youth Cup Tie Abandoned Two Minutes From End 9th Feb 2009 21:46
Town's FA Youth Cup fifth round tie against Watford was abandoned at 0-0 with just two minutes left on the clock due to an increasingly waterlogged pitch. Referee Matthew McLaughlin held two pitch inspections before the game but despite torrential rain was happy for the game to start. 0

No, we lost! Marvin Sordell scored a hat-trick in a 3-2 win for the Hornets. Someone told me some years later that that saved his Watford career, they had been looking at releasing him until then.

Youths Knocked Out By Watford 7th Mar 2009 17:57
A Marvin Sordell hat-trick ended Town's FA Youth Cup campaign as Watford defeated the young Blues 3-2 after extra-time in this afternoon's rearranged fifth round tie. Town had been two down to the Hornets, but goals from Ronan Murray and Jack Ainsley took the game into extra-time. 0

Anyone recall a home game v Oxford sometime in 88 or 89? Was called off just before kick off. Walked to Portman road in the pouring rain and then walked home in the pouring rain.

U18s: Ward, Hyam, Dunbar, Daniels (Clemo 67), Eastman, Ainsley, Clark, Cawley, Wickham, Murray, Lambe. Unused: McLoughlin, Griffiths, Brandon.

Impressive how many of the line up went on to play for the first team!

Struggling to think of a way to word this as I know there will be a few

Have there been many that came through the age groups as one of the top rated lads who never made it anywhere? Not think Chirewa, Benyu, Ben Knight etc but ones that seemingly disappeared off the face of the earth but you never would have expected to not ‘make it’?

I make it eight out of the squad, Jamie Griffiths made a very brief sub appearance, if I remember rightly. David Cawley had a good career in the League of Ireland and Seb Dunbar is a Leiston legend!

Richard Logan was hyped up a lot back in the day. IIRC he had a solid lower-league career, but he was spoken of very highly indeed.

Going back to the late seventies/early eighties, Jimmy King was very highly thought of but had no career to speak of.

abandoning a game when the scores are level is rarely controversial. Once one team is ahead, it becomes the more controversial the longer the game goes on.

Makes you wonder how that game against Leicester carried on in the snow.

I'm still thawing out from it.

Not postponing that one in the first place was the most controversial thing, especially with Alan Ferguson. Was posting due to the lateness of the decision rather than controversy.

that was incredible. The ref took the teams off for a while, conditions became worse, so the teams went out again & finished the game. I don;t know if there was any hidden pressure because the game was on live TV.

Even the 4 pints of Bovril didn't help that night,I resembled Jack Nicholson at the end of The Shining by the 91st minute.

The thing with that match was that we hadn't had days of frozen temperatures beforehand, so the snowfall, whilst intense, did not make the pitch dangerous like a frozen pitch would been.

I seem to remember Ibrahima Sonko getting a back injury on a rather solid Portman Road pitch one winter.

Fresh snow is no different to rainfall, within reason. As long as the ball, players and pitch lines are visible, I say, Game On!
