EFL = Evidently Flipping Lame 15:20 - Sep 23 with 5121 viewsBrayBlue

It is absolutely ridiculous that the EFL have taken this long to decide what should happen following Saturday’s abandonment. What is the hold-up? What are they waiting on? Just get it done.

Cheers,
JK

Stating the obvious, but -

It’s MAD that they don’t have an automatic rule in place for this situation, and instead, they ask the clubs (?!) what they think, and then make a decision after that.

This isn’t some unprecedented, freak situation that they couldn’t even see coming. It just rained real hard in the north of England!

Its ridiculous really. A game lasts 90 mins at least , if not why play added time. Als if EFL do anything othong other than replay the game all the managers cliches about "keep going to the end" , " never over till its over" etc etc will all have to have a huge asterisk above them. I genuinely wouldnt be expecting anything other than a rematch if the roles where reversed!

At the point play was suspended on Saturday I was pretty sure the score would stand as the final result as it had passed 75 minutes. I have a feeling that may still be what happens and to be honest if it does I would not be that bothered if Town accepted it and moved on rather then fighting the decision. I appreciate this is probably a very unpopular view.

If it's awarded to Blackburn, it won't be to do with the time that has passed. That's just not a 'thing' in the English game.

I recall that snowy night v Leicester, absolutely certain it wasnt going to finish but i do remember myself snd everyone around me knowing and commenting that our only chsnce of keeping that 3-0 win was for Aex Ferguson and he ground staff to keep that pitch playable in the eyes of the ref... helped a lot by RKs involvement and Sky televising but we all knew that however close to the end that may have been stopped we would have been back for a rematch.

Yeah not sure where I got that from. Maybe it was something from the old days if games were abandoned due to crowd disorder or something.

Apparently (EADT), this no longer applies - but that was the rule as recently as the Oxford fog game:

"I thought it got much worse as the half went on. That's why we called the referee over again on 74 minutes to discuss it because, at that point, both myself and Karl, I believe, were both happy to play the game another day. Because it was going to be a lottery playing it in those last 20 minutes.

"I think the captains on the pitch were prepared for an abandonment, but the referee said that if it got abandoned after the 75th minute, even though it got stopped on the 74th minute, the result would stand.

"As a group we want to win, so we tried to go for the last 15 minutes and see if we could get the win.

"It's not an easy circumstance for the referee. I guess the thing that should have happened is he made sure that consulation happened on 70 minutes if the final call had to be made by 75 irrespective of when the ball went out of play."

1-0, at home, 10 mins left, against 10 men!

Not exactly an obvious call to replay 90 minutes 11 v 11 is it.

I’m 45 years a fan, and the best I can come up with is replay last 10 mins.., anything else is pure hypocrisy, no way would we accept a full replay in the same circumstances, nobody would.

98% probability we lose that game - hard to argue emotion over facts, except for a few nodding dogs.

Losing as we would, would be better for us long term.., no way are Ashton and McKenna close to the elite level the investment warrants.

I'm 66 years a fan, and if you wait another 21 years you'll be able to see your way clear to my conclusion, namely, that hypocrisy plays no part in the decision required, and that nothing short of a full replay makes any sense.

It never applied or even existed in the first place - the ref was completely wrong.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

It didn’t apply then, the ref got it wrong and then denied that he had said it.

Furthermore Leyton Orient had a game abandoned in the 83rd minute, due to a medical emergency in the crowd, which had to be replayed in full.

Leyton Orient were winning the game, not that long ago (believe it was when El Mizouni was on loan).

This was highlighted as incorrect advice soon after the game.

There is something in FIFA, but that doesn't apply to our domestic games.

I've got this feeling they will award the game to Blackburn.

I'm wondering if this situation is unprecedented, given the Greaves red card ?

Maybe they need to add a new ruling for such situations, to justify whatever decision they make?

Any talk of playing the last 10 or so minutes out is pretty silly, fitness would not be the same ,yellow or red cards are irrelevant on making a decision. The EFL could set a precedent for future games called off, that could make it messy, it may be unlucky on Blackburn but it's simply a replay. ( in my opinion)
