Solution to the small boats crisis apparently 15:59 - Sep 25 with 4305 views | bluelagos | They seem to be arguing making us all use digital ID will stop people using boats to claim asylum in the Uk. Any excuse for some authoritarian stretch of the state into our personal lives eh.

Solution to the small boats crisis apparently on 19:25 - Sep 26 with 557 views | BanksterDebtSlave | So despite the ongoing drift towards right wing authoritarian governments many seem happy at the prospect of giving the state their biometric and dna details. Best you and your kids don't do anything 'illegal' at any point in our unknown future. Oh and shame on Starmer for pretending that this is about "securing our borders!" I imagine this will further entrench the very people he's trying to win over in never supporting him and/or Labour.

Anyone who has a passport has given the state their biometric details. Anyone who has used the NHS has likely given far more.

I just can’t get passed the fact there is no real reason for this to exist or that it has no purpose. You already have to provide ID to be employed and proof of immigration - not sure why so many are ignoring this point. It solves a problem that doesnt exist. I hope the backlash kills this off as it did for Blair. Another £400m (probably multiply that 10 fold given it’s a Gov est), that could be spent on something worthwhile- how many GP’s could you employ for that - might even get to see one…

I think that once you have an operating system it's quite easy to expand it. Places like Estonia have had them for years and they are used for basically every public service. Agree that it doesn't do anything about the specific problems faced around migration. This article highlights how, over time, it can be pretty useful. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/sep/26/starmer-id-card-plan-has-caused-up SB

Now, I've not thought about the consequences of it But because the ID thing won't actually stop anyone hiring people just like NI, why doesn't the uk just become a cashless society. That way no one can have cash in hand, therfore companies won;t be able to get workers on the cheap as their books would show all paid out transactions from their accounts....

You dont have to have id to be employed. But if there is no excuse, because you have to register each employee against their digital id, it will take a good deal more courage for dodgy employers to ignroe the rules. You will also get rid of all the nonsense and wasted time and effort dealing with false names given to authorities and police. You also have the ability to link with Europe and identify people who have been in the country before, or who have applied for asylum elsewhere. Lots of reasons why the Europeans keep saying to us "stop asking us to help you with immigration when you cant be arsed to have ID cards and help yourselves or to work with us effectively".
