McKenna's Men 2.0 09:25 - Oct 6 with 1286 viewsitfcsuth

If a derby day result like that doesn't kick start a season, unite and bring a group together then nothing can!

Stripping away the derby day emotion, it felt like a really comfortable and routine home win.

Philogene producing another individual moment of the highest level, don't get me wrong, I still find him frustrating at times in his overall game, but when you produce moments like that, all is forgiven.

Kipre the standout performer for me, think he's everything we need back there, he's strong, physical, good mover and primarily a really strong defender - the fact he's comfortable on the ball at LCB is a bonus.

Yesterday for me our strongest XI currently, and hopefully post international break we can really kick on now and have a special season.

Big test to come at Boro' next up.... But they've stumbled a bit last few matches, and we've improved. So I'm cautiously optimistic we can get a result there...

We've played only 8 games so far. And with 11pts from our last 5 games. It only took 3 or 4 games to start showing really good signs. And KM getting a tune in the attacking third..
Which, if I'm honest, is a lot quicker than I'd thought it would take, given all the upheaval in The Summer.
Think most would say , there's probably more to come, in terms of our overall match performances.

I like the way Phylogene just plays with freedom, with ball at feet. As if KM has given him license to do his own thing, within reason.
We have a couple of special players in JP and Egeli... And as long as they keep some discipline when out of possession. I don't mind either of them playing with freedom with balll at feet.... Sure, not everything will come off for them. But by playing on instinct, full of confidence, I think we'll see the best of both of them... JP obviously , is further along right now.. Egeli is getting there. Smodics and Hirst doing a lot of dog work, so we can get the best from those two, imo.... With J. Clarke, also starting to bloom in a Town shirt.

Massive test at Boro, given the way they have started the season - to go away there, against a good squad will be a good indicator of where we are/going to be this year.

I agree that I think the run of the last 4 games is a strong, and hopefully a good sign of things settling down - although I will say I still think there is a lot more to come from this group (which is frightening actually).

JP really struggled at PL level, I think the physicality/speed of the division was the biggest factor, because it isn't his talent to be fair - we have dropped a level, but it has shown off his talents to be fair to him - just want to see consistency from him throughout a game, that's my frustration with him now to be honest, but keep producing match winning moments like he is and I can't say anything.

ST, CAM and RM looked the final piece of the puzzle to me - hopefully a run for Sammie and Sindre will see them blossom.

Think Sunday was our strongest 'preferred' line up, and I am a huge advocate of consistency in the group/selection.

It felt - to me at least - like it was a significant result. The sense of connection with the fans, the players joy with each other and of course the togetherness of beating 'that' lot combined to give me a sense that it could be the day that this group of players became a team.

A result of any kind against Boro should see us up and running for the season. (Anything less and I'll be back to wondering if the players are really going to be successful together - such is the fickleness of a football fan!!)

I'm inclined to agree but you know it will only take a couple of below-par draws in a row before the groans start to appear again. From the usual never-happy suspects.

Think it's going to be a really tight game.

Boro have only scored 4 at home so far (we've got 13 by comparison), but they've only conceded 1 and we've only scored 2 away from home.

Can we take our home performances on the road?

Agree with the majority of that but I can't understand why you can't just praise Philogene without have to have a slight dig at him every time!

For me it didn't feel comfortable until the 3rd went in.

I think we've got several levels in our locker as I don't feel like we've put a complete performance in this season. That's potentially quite scary.

I agree that our strongest 11 is the one that started on Sunday. Personally I'd look to rotate is little as possible. It's much easier to start strong, get ahead of the game and make earlier subs than making wholesale changes and end up chasing the game

We have picked up 6 more points in the past 5 games than Boro have. 11-5. I'm confident of getting a result up there.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

Yep, that's the next step isn't it?
Grabbing a few more points on the road..

But compared to earlier games at Brum' and Preston. We look twice the team now imo.
That flippin transfer window really unsettled the squad for me.
As soon as we got into September, we've seen a much happier and more together squad of players, imo.

Loads of people waxing lyrical about Cov', and they are looking good atm.. But , we win our game in hand and we're just 3pts behind them, and yet to play them... So our start hasn't been the horror show that the doomers would have us think it has.

I think the next element to our game is taking dominant performances on the road, but I don't see Boro away as that sort of performance.

I think it will be a well balanced performance, hopefully a moment of quality can decide the game for us.

But either way would agree, think it will be really tight.

Never feels comfortable with only 1 goal in it, and I think we've been burnt by that in seasons/games gone by - so understand your point.

But I think for the overall control and flow of the game, especially the second half, taking away the derby day anxiety and long overdue win, it was a game for me we were largely in full control of.

That's just my opinion of him at the moment.

He's certainly impressed me far more in recent games then prior, but whilst I think he is producing some phenomenal moments, I don't necessarily think his overall performances are phenomenal - that's just my view of him.

I think my opinion of him is a pretty fair view - he has produced moments of the highest quality possible (that in itself is a huge compliment), but at times he still does things that frustrate me.

I'd take a point now, may be pessimistic, but I think that would be a really good result.
