Georgia. Fantastic country. 19:03 - Oct 8 with 807 viewsStochesStotasBlewe

Returned the early hours of this morning after a week staying in Tbilisi and Kutaisi. Wonderful sights to see in both cities, the mountains are spectacular, very safe, cheap and superb food, drink and prices in general. Even managed to see the big game live…but regretted the copious amounts of beer and cha cha afterwards.
A few locals knew a fair amount about the club but they had no idea who Norwich were which was nice.
Well worth a visit fellow blues 👍

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

… and they like their rugger too.. I believe a lot of Russians escaped to there who were not necessarily in step with the regime for a variety of reason so I imagine it’s quite “bohemian” or would that be Hungary 😉

Decent hotels? What kind of food? What did you pay for a pint? Easy to get around? Sounds a good place.

Same, we’re keen on the Stans. I’ve not looked into it in any detail, but we promised ourselves a big holiday next year for a major wedding anniversary (and ties in with the eldest finishing A levels). They’re on the long list for sure.

But then I’d like to go to Sri Lanka too. Too many places!

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Air b&b in both cities. My son booked them back in May. Two double bedrooms, £40 a night for two of us, both basic, very clean, comfortable and central. Ate Georgian food every night, kachapuri, khinkali among others usually had 3 or 4 different dishes and shared, anything between 25-30 quid including a couple of beers in total. Cheapest beer worked out about £1-50 for a pint, decent too.
Wine is excellent. Bolt (uber) really cheap as is the metro, and public transport in general.
Very few Brits, fair few Russians, Chinese, Indian and other European tourists, some stunning scenery and interesting old Soviet stuff. Quite westernised in the city centres, but authentic old towns to explore.
Roughly five hours flight from Heathrow or Luton

My son was so impressed with our trip that we are thinking about looking to get a visit to Armenia and Azerbaijan booked up for 2027. Mate of mine who has extensively travelled for years was very fortunate to be granted a visa for Turkmenistan last year. Now that did look surreal.

Can you fly direct from London? I have always fancied going but there didn’t used to be direct flights which makes it a bit of a pain.
I went to Kazakhstan for work last year and that peaked my interest in post-USSR states, plus am a big fan of the food & wine based on experiences eating in Georgian restaurants.
Cheers

Edit - I could have just googled it couldn’t I. See that easyJet & BA now fly direct, result. Albeit that BA flight leaving at 9.30pm looks like a grim red-eye given it’s only 5 hours flight.

I also enjoyed Georgia, great country to visit. I would like to go again to see Kutaisi.
The food is so heavy but the tastes are amazing, the taxi drivers treat it like a race track, I have never been driven so fast, to an airport at 5am.

The Luton flight got us there at about 8-45pm on the Tuesday flight with Easy Jet. Cost us just over £200 each including 20kg in the hold and dedicated seats. Booked well in advance though.

A friend of mine has just moved there. Heavily into his crypto, and the capital gains tax is minimal over there.

He is loving life there.
