Greece Scots 21:37 - Oct 9 with 997 views | Smoresy | Wild scoreline, Greece much the better side but for the crucial bit. Hirst still third choice behind Adams and Dykes so no minutes tonight, which probably suits us well.

It was funny! Especially the Greek guy going down in the box for a penalty like he was at death door only to leap up when he realised there was a cross coming in

Wasn't that the forward we wanted to sign last summer?

Indeed it was, Fotis Ionnadis, bullet dodged...although the sniper in Row Z hit him. As far as the match goes I think it was a bit of a Steve Clarke masterclass, he knew the Greek team was strong and well organised so he surrendered the initiative to them for the first half and the start of the second, not great for the Hampden crowd but it looked to be working until they scored. Which turned out to be the worst thing they could do given the surprising fight back. Fortunate to get the deflection off a Greek player which led to three Scots players who would have been offside otherwise helping to set up Christie's equaliser. When Dykes came on rather than Hirst I was disappointed but the third goal settled the nerves so well that I can't fault the substitution, hopefully Hirst will start against Belarus and run riot.

Greece Scots on 09:43 - Oct 10 with 484 views | bluearmy4838 | I'm happy for Scotland. Not sure the sentiment would be widely shared if the roles were reversed but not too bothered about that. Purely as an England supporter and World Cup viewer I'll take more interest in Scotland being there than Greece. Good for Hirst as well, hopefully has a good season with us and can go there off the back of a promotion and score some goals.

Tbf, Dykes has been playing ok lately, as an impact off the bench for club and country... Hirst will have his day... | | | | Login to get fewer ads

His aggressive following in on the attempt by the goalkeeper to save a corner was inspired. The Greek number three, Koulierakis, not following the ball up was criminal. Their manager Jovanovic's, face at the end said it all.

Why is that concerning? Steve Clarkes system suits Dykes better at the moment. Hirst is a completely different kind of footballer.

I suppose it’s horses for courses. Dykes is a cart horse and doesn’t mind being used as a battering ram and for dirty work, is slow but just keeps going. Hirsty more of a thoroughbred that can go faster and for longer but is a bit more. Sort of. But yeah, I’m no fan of what I’ve seen of Dykes. Very agricultural and limited footballer, but plays the role well. I prefer footballing footballers, but recognise the need for bruisers too.
