He's clearly better on the left, was our best player by some distance last night. The argument for playing him on the right is to get him in to the same team as Philogene as they've been 2 of our best 3 players this season. However, he's certainly not ineffective off the left. | | | |

It is a very valid argument too. You have to start Philogene at Portman Road. He has won us two games already and our top scorer. Clarke was excellent and he deserves to start (in the 10 or on the right for me) but it was a mistake not to start Philogene last night. |  | | |

Clarke might be better on the left but it then negates Davis as Clarke wants to hug that line.
Hence, again, Davis ends up playing as an inside forward and is far, far less effective. |  |

Less effective going forward but also less stretched defensively (theoretically!). I thought Clarke created more than enough himself on the left last night. He also beat the full back both ways so I disagree with the OP's reflections there, that he only ever cuts inside on the left.
More problematic for me was nearly every other area of the pitch aha, albeit I'd wanted Jaden to start because I was very aware of our reliance on his thunderblasters to break the deadlock. | | | |

Given that goals have been conceded in the last two games as a result Davis being muscled off the ball in the penalty area, maybe he shouldn't be untouchable if it means that we can get a different approach going forward.
I know we don't have someone who is an actual left back as cover but Young could probably do a job there. |  | | |

He really has been dreadful the last 2 games defensively and being so exposed doesnt seem to be creating much going forward either. Wouldn't be against Johnson starting there Saturday. | | | |

He has to start ahead of Philogene. I’m still not impressed with Philogene at all. Yes he has a thunderous shot but all the problems we had with him before his goals are still very much present.
