House purchase update 22:48 - Oct 31 with 832 viewstonybied

For those that are interested. After a couple of post on here about our woes trying to buy our first house, I thought I'd post a positive update. It's been a crazy couple of weeks, so I haven't really had a chance to post on the subject before now.

Last Monday we completed on, what we feel, is our perfect home! Even now, after a week and a bit of ownership, and nearly a full week of living here, we don't have a single regret, or pang of remorse!

Thanks to any post rs that offered moral support, or stories of their experiences when we were feeling rather down about our previous failure to get over the line, with what has proved to be the wrong house for us. We both have discussed to no end how glad we are that we didn't follow through with the failed purchase, and what could've been if we had!

To any going through the hell that is the English property purchasing process. Stick it out, follow your gut, and you'll prevail in the end! If things don't work out, it'll be for a reason. Many people told us this,we failed to believe it, but it has been true.

Keep going, and if you're unsure, wobbling in your decision, or just need a soundboard, this place is tops for advice and support. Love each and every one of you guys, even you, dark horse!

Anyway, that's enough showing off, from one happy new homeowner to the forum.

*Disclaimer, I have had a few tonight and my love for you guys may not be so forthcoming in the morning. First weekend in the new place, what other reason do I need to get slozzled!!!

Result.
Always good to hear of someone finding a home rather than an investment.

I moved 7 days ago.

Put my offer in back in April. Its been painful. Its not hard work as there is more to do than I realised. But its peaceful and slowly coming together.

Nice when it eventually works out.

Congrats!

The new place barely needs any work done to it, so we can settle in, buy the furniture required, and then take our time to redecorate as we wish.

This purchase was 11 weeks from bid acceptance to completion, which by the sounds of things, is about as quick as can be expected, currently.

We're just super stoked it's done with, and can't seem to believe our luck. We both feel we're going to wake up in the morning and find it's just been some cruel dream, but nearly 2 weeks in now and I keep waking up to the new bedroom and the wonderful sound of silence (which is sooooo far removed from where we moved from!).

It also cool to know that the money that will be coming out of our accounts will not just be lining someone profiteering off think s countries poor social housing stock, and that we never have the threat of suddenly being turfed out (as long as we keep paying the bank, of course!)

That is great news, congratulations!

I'm going through my own personal hell with the housing market. We've been dealing with moving house since April 2023. First move fell through in September that year, eventually sold and moved into rented in January this year.

We then had an offer accepted on a place in April, with a 3-person complete chain. That has now turned into a seven person chain and it's looking 50/50 whether we will be in before Christmas. To top it off, my wife is pregnant and due in February.

On top of that I've been selling my Grandad's house, who died last year. Another nightmare, with an impatient buyer, a last minute legal issue that delayed exchange by a month, and to round it off, unauthorised access given by the estate agent to a surveyor who damaged thr property. Thankfully that is now all complete.

My advice to anyone looking to get on the property ladder is to aim to move as few times as possible in your life because it is a bloody nightmare!
