Comfortably the biggest head-scratcher for me in this squad.
Must be a manager's nightmare. At surface level, an absolute Rolls Royce, but delve deeper and is it all aesthetics and no end product? I fear so. He's meant to be our ball progressor. Sure, he can eat up ground with the ball for days, but if you dwell on the ball for too long or make the wrong pass/weight of pass, what's the point?

I've never understood the fuss about him tbh and never got the hype, because I genuinely can't decide what type of midfielder he is. He's not strong defensively or particularly creative. He doesn't have the legs either to be a box to box midfielder. His main asset appears to be the ability to break the lines with a clever turn, but it rarely leads to anything.
I think he could be a useful finisher. I think the last 20 minutes of last nights game would have played to his strengths more than the first 70 | |

The "doesn't have the legs" thing is quite damning, isn't it?
I wouldn't be at all surprised if he does end his playing days in a Saudi Arabia or UAE league, simply because he can't cope with the pace of the game in Europe.
Only Town could sign someone with a chronic knee injury that means he can rarely train and needs wrapping in cotton wool for one of the most demanding leagues in the world. | | | |
