Comfortably the biggest head-scratcher for me in this squad.

Must be a manager's nightmare. At surface level, an absolute Rolls Royce, but delve deeper and is it all aesthetics and no end product? I fear so. He's meant to be our ball progressor. Sure, he can eat up ground with the ball for days, but if you dwell on the ball for too long or make the wrong pass/weight of pass, what's the point?

Jack's added some real bite in their alongside Matusiwa, but we know he's not 'cute' like Nunez. In reality, we need 2x Nunez's - one to compete for the left-sided pivot and one for the central 10!

Tend to agree.

He shouldn’t be able to just turn away from players like that. It implies he’s too good for this level.

But it doesn’t result in meaningful output.

I think Cajuste and Nunez are similar in that neither suits the 2nd pivot place. Both funnily enough imo should be the two rotating the 10 role.

… and he only does it for 45 minutes. Countless games where it’s almost like he doesn’t come out second half.

So what’s really the point in it all when his contribution is 0 assists and 0 goals.

I don't know who started this Rolls Royce thing with Cajuste but I wish it would end. The closest he gets to a RR is pulling out of the garage and changing up into 2nd gear, but that's where the comparison ends at present.

Cajuste in Saudi would be ideal. How committed are we to Cajustes loan deal?
If Cajuste was a 22 year old who we've just bought and is working his way up to his 'ceiling'' , then he would be an exciting prospect.... but he's probably past his peak and seems to be getting weaker physically. It's not like we've flogged him. He can only manage 70 mins at a time... and out of that 70 mins, he's only got energy for the first 20 mins.
I'd love to cut this loan deal short in January, but think we're committed. In which case, could he handy as a sub for the last 20 mins.

Did he even want to come back here, or were we a bit of a last resort after he explored other options?

I remember an ex pro telling me football is as much, if not more, about the mental side as the technical and physical. I don't think Luongo, Chaplin, Burns, Morsy etc were probably as 'good' as some of the players we have now, but they seriously wanted it and were all in. We out ran and out fought everyone last time out at this level. Occasionally came unstuck against better players like Leeds when the quality was too much, but we were never found wanting in effort and desire.

I'm not sure some of these players have the same temperament, perhaps that's a consequence of having already played at a higher level for many vs. the class of 23/24 knowing they might never get another chance, maybe the shared experiences of L1 promotion gave them a tight bond, or maybe its just their nature. Cajuste was starting a Champions League last 16 game against Barcelona 18 months ago, it can't be as easy to get yourself up for Watford at home.

He cuts the figure of someone unwilling to do the hard yards to me, it might not be a popular thing to say but he's been really, really poor in that respect. Last night was the same and I'm sorry to say it but he doesn't look like he's arsed.

If we're looking to strengthen CM in January then Louza looked very good last night and has been getting rave reviews all season.

Same here, I have never understood all the furore surrounding Cajuste, a luxury player for me who can't play more than an hour without tiring massively. yes the odd nice turn etc but pretty much no goals, no assists and ducks out of quite a few tackles, he stood idle last night as the Watford guy tapped it home. Not overly impressed to be honest.

He's got a lovely turn in his locker, but he's so pedestrian, doesn't assist, track back or score goals.

Matt Holland he ain't.

We need to get a settled pairing in there. I don't buy this idea we can keep rotating without consequences. Matusiwa is obviously nailed on so we need someone that compliments him and can progress the ball. I agree that seems to be Nunez. I also agree he looks the best 10 option as well. But then he doesn't look nailed on in either position and sits on the bench for more time than he plays!

Nunez was the 2nd best ball progressor in the division last season behind Hackney. If we got Hackney we wouldn't be rolling him in and out of the team so not sure why we are doing it with Nunez. McKenna struggling to keep players happy? Maybe.

He got the assist for our goal against WBA last week.

agree, though both played deeper positions at previous clubs. We don't really have any 10's now and they have more nous in that area than Akpom or Szmodics . Our purchasing has been pretty unbalanced.

If we could blend Cajuste and Matusiwa into one we'd have the perfect midfielder. Was so impressed with Matusiwa last night, definitely MOTM.

On your final par, I would imagine it's more about managing Nunez' minutes. He's by no means a... 'robust' midfielder. He can do some serious damage but Champ midfielders and defences can injure him easily. Watford's #5 was trying to kick lumps out of him last night.

When it comes to managing minutes, one could argue we've got a good spread of options for the double pivot... An hour here and there for Taylor, same for Cajuste and Nunez. But it shows in the lack of cohesion through the spine of the team. Morsy and Luongo were capable of playing most weeks together and it showed.

As you say, a settled pairing is a must once we're through the hectic late November/early December period.

Feels like we've got him in the wrong season in the Championship. Last time out where lots of games were 'proper' footballing matches and basketball-like he'd have looked very good I think. Indeed those types of matches in the Prem were what had people raving about him.

That said I don't really agree that Taylor's been an obvious improvement to be honest. Had a tidy couple of games previous to last night but it was still very clear we needed something else in there. Felt a bit like when people were determined to give Kipre MOTM against Portsmouth because his name isn't Jacob Greaves.

Think it's also a bit harsh to single him out for slow ball progression when it's an issue that runs through the whole team.

Does feel though that perhaps Nunez deserves a run in there, unless he's now needed as a no.10 option, which is arguably more of a problem position for us at the moment.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Well my own definition is actually called the luongo position. It's a mix of everything where you help the left side when on the attack after youve dropped deep to collect the ball from the defenders and are also available and soaking up the ball if the ball is lost and you're helping to get back to cover too. It's a very box to box role imo. Taylor recently has done it superbly even when he came on last night and was involved in that 'shot' over the bar, he was helping clarke and greaves out on the left. When Taylor players next to Azor, it's been imo like watching broady, luongo and davis.

That's my own personal definition, 'The Loungo role'.

I hope that is acceptable for you lol

He's been very frustrating to watch this season. At times he looks class, his ability to turn in tight spaces and get us up the pitch is his main strength and when he's doing that he looks too good for this level. But his use of the ball is very hit and miss. He picks some good passes but at other times he's sloppy or holds on to it too long. He drifts in and out of games too much and can't seem to manage more than 50 minutes. I'm not convinced Nunez is any better as an option there either. He can pick a nice pass but he's lightweight and tends to lose the ball in dangerous areas too often for my liking. Two games isn't much of a sample size but Taylor has looked the most suited to that role so far, certainly he's shown he can drop in to cover the LB while also getting forward and supporting the attack. Nothing flashy but getting himself around the pitch, winning first and second balls, and using the ball well. Sometimes you need to just get the basics right.

It’s a really good point and do wonder if KM is under pressure to keep everyone happy. But he’ll end up pleasing nobody if he persists with weird “rotation/resting”. Taylor had been really good for the last two games. No reason to drop him. Not as if he’s played a lot of minutes for us in his entire Town career so not as if he’s tired and needs a rest. Also not buying this “three games in a week has to be managed carefully”. As if three games a week is a new thing.

Nunez scored twice and was looking lively at QPR … why drop him?

He's a bit like Luke W - absolutely lovely player to watch, a real RR player. But there's something missing somewhere that stops him being what he looks like he should be. I think that's why he's playing in the English 2nd tier and not in a top grade team somewhere in Europe.
