R.I.P Richard Darbyshire on 18:48 - Nov 11 by vapour_trail
He’s a lying in a box.
In a cardboard box ?
God I feel old he was 27 when that song came out… I remember buying the album in Inverness on a holiday and being really disappointed with it … and its length.
Incredible tidbit .. he was married to the singer of the theme tune to life of Brian … two things that shocked me was one she was white and two she was only 16 when it was recorded.
I'm not sure why but this song seems to provoke memories - we used to have a local Christmas party in our village hall; a regular event since the '60's and a chance for people who rarely saw each other for the rest of the year to catch up.
It was all barrels of ale and bottles of Carlsberg and home-made mince pies and curling sarnies. This was played a few times.
