| Some thoughts - no structure to the post so apologise in advance 19:35 - Nov 23 with 3184 views | sundayroast | - signed a number of players who clearly weren’t first picks, and the quality is lacking - a rebuild if we were to somehow gain promotion this season (this set of players aren’t PL ready or much of an upgrade on what we had) - zero assists from a huge number of our attacking players - strikers that aren’t up to leading the line for us - no pace up top to give the option of a through ball, and even if we did, would KM adapt to play that way? - slow ponderous football - so reliant on a good quality number 10, but that we don’t have. - so much time spent in the summer not bringing in players, lack of gelling time, even though we are 1/3 of the season gone they look like strangers. - look around and see people yawning, bored - half time a telling time, people just shrugging shoulders with no excitement or bounce about them/what they’ve seen - how does KM change this? - are we AGAIN waiting for a transfer window to help us out? At a bit of a loss to where we are currently. That said, I’ll be driving to Hull in the hope we see another good away win as per Swansea. But I can’t help but think things are a bit of a mess, despite the illusion that MA gives when he’s in front of a camera. Being this far adrift of top spot I personally feel is a real kick in the gut, our aim this season (I believe) with the money spent and the wages flying about would/should have been 1st/2nd. | | | | |

There are several cautionary tales and I wonder if that pressure of knowing we have a limited time window is affecting the club. It’s certainly affecting the fans as expectations are sky high. Nobody’s relaxed. |
Indeed; and I was also thinking of how we achieved our back to back promotions with a largely "League One Side"! Don't know what Plymouth's squad cost in the first of those seasons, but I bet it was comparatively bargain basement too. [Post edited 24 Nov 20:18]

Point is, when Clarke, or Philogene, or Akpom, or Smods, or Nunez, or Cajuste or even Hirst, beat a man do they get away, or do they have to check back or get forced into a pass or shot because they know the opponent will be snapping at their heels? Just one or two genuinely quick players in those slots changes the equation for defences. Its why wes was so vital, and Ogbene was bought. |
No Leif and DOS both clocked elite speeds at Prem level. It was top percentile numbers for speed in their positions. I agree on the attack though. I think you can have a Clarke or Philogene on the left but the right hand side could do with some speed to stretch the defences.

He clearly didn't join u because he expected a Premier League offer which never came. Will he see Boro without Edwards as his best chance of getting there? Has he done enough to attract the Premier League interest he thinks he deserves? Is it possible we could go back for him and, if we did, would he pair up with Matusiwa? I can't see him coming to be Matusiwa's back-up. |
I think he would pair up lovely with Azor. At this level he is a bit of everything Hackney and that's really what we need. Jack Taylor is a bit of everything but he does everything to a solid level as opposed to a good level like Hackney does is how I see it. Can't see Boro willing to sell if they are in the top 6, not him in a rush to go to the mess that is Wolves atm.

I was more thinking about whether we could sign him if Boro do poorly over the next month and we do well and it is clear we are investing further. If he wants to be Premier League and can't get a deal at a Prem club he will want the best chance to get promoted won't he?

On paper at the start of the season we would have looked a better option for PL football for him, and he opted to stay put.

Because (so it is rumoured at least) he was confident a Premier League club was going to come in for him. It was suggested at the end of the window that this might be one we could revisit in January.

You think McKenna put the squad together? "Tell me you know nothing about modern day football without telling me"

That is all mostly rubbish, and a lot of it.
