| “Bad Recruitment” 23:37 - Dec 3 with 869 views | Chris_ITFC | I don’t buy it. This is all about tactics and man management. Look at who we’ve signed in the last 2 years. They weren’t good enough for the Premier League, but this squad absolutely should be now. Proven Championship performers: Clarke (Sunderland) Philogene (Hull) Greaves (Hull) O’Shea (WBA) Szmodics (Blackburn) Nunez (*******) Akpom (Boro) Kipre (WBA) Furlong (WBA) Ogbene (Rotherham) Muric (Burnley) Palmer (WBA) Townsend (WBA) No Championship experience, but proven quality: Walle Egeli Matusiwa Cajuste Sold for profit: Hutchinson Delap None of the above: Azon McAteer Johnson Young Button (excl. Prem loans) | |

Pace and physicality. Apart from hirst not one of our midfield or strikers is above 6ft. Not one of our midfielders or strikers has get past your defender pace. We have a few that can take on the man and get a few yards from them due their technical ability but beyond that we have recruited a team of mid to high technical players with average pace. We can’t break the lines and we can’t get in behind teams like we used to so will have to rely on battling it out, slogging it out and hope that our possession game gets us enough opportunities to put one away which is proving hard at the moment due to how we lack a clinical cutting edge for what ever reason [Post edited 3 Dec 23:56]

Cajuste and Taylor are both over 6ft

Agree entirely with the OP, it's not down to the recruitment, it's down to tactics and coaching. Rotation, rotation rotation, square pegs in round holes, the way we have completely nullified Leif Davis as the assist king is a prime example of poor tactics.

Yes, but you can serve a bloody delicious 3 courses with all those ingredients. Or you can blend it badly and come up with something revolting.

Having right backs sat in the stand doesn’t affect performances. Having Leif play every minute doesn’t either. He’s always done that. And you can’t have us short at 10 and striker; Akpom is one or the other. The hard truth is, all these expensive pieces could be put together in a better way.

But they were bought with the manager’s blessing to play his system. And the system can also be changed, as blasphemous and incomprehensible as that is. If he can’t get a tune out of that level of proven quality, that’s tactics.

I think they are good players, I'm just saying it's bad recruitment if the players and system are not aligned somewhere along the way. I think recruitment and coaching share the blame.

| “Bad Recruitment” on 08:50 - Dec 4 with 181 views | TownieRob | Proven Championship players should give you stability at this level. Unfortunately, we signed a lot of these lads with the idea that we’d be ‘relentless in our approach’ to the Premier League. As I said in another post, the only two signings who actually made the transition are now, quite rightly, back in the Premier League this season. You can dress it up however you like, but the truth is there in front of us. What we’re seeing on the pitch strongly suggests the recruitment just hasn’t been good enough. And if you want an example of how it should be done, just look at Sunderland. They’re absolutely flying, that’s what 'good' recruitment looks like. | | | |

TomTheWriter nailed it yesterday. Problematic Recruitment by TomTheWriter 3 Dec 11:09For me the player recruitment isn’t the problem, it’s the profile recruitment.
The players are good. There’s almost 100 goals between Akpom, Sammie, Jaden and Clarke from a few seasons back. On paper the majority of signings are good because they dominated the league with other teams. The problem is they don’t fit the rigid way we want to play.
It’s the same with Southampton. They took Azaz and Fellows very late, 2 of the best in the Champ for Boro and W.Brom. They struggled hugely under Still, but in the 5 games since his sacking Azaz has 5 goals and 1 assist. Good player, wrong style, now clearly the right style.
We either need McKenna to play in a way that suits the players, or you choose someone else. I don’t want us spending another £150m without one of the above changing

Yeah it seemed well boring when it rocketed us to double promotion playing free flowing attacking football.
| “Bad Recruitment” on 09:32 - Dec 4 with 74 views | Pinewoodblue | Mcateer (Leicester) Young (Watford) & Button(with 6 different clubs) all have Championship experience. Recruitment this summer wasn’t restricted to players there were several departures from McKenna’s backroom team. Not bad recruitment but recruitment KMc would rather not have had to make. | |
