He was on loan over here at Swansea of course about 5 years ago now (which would have made him about 19/20). I don’t think I’ve seen a better CB in the Championship, never mind someone just starting out. He was a pleasure to watch and on another level, both in terms of defending and playing. I would have loved him with us, but we weren’t in a good place then unfortunately. |  |

True, but that’s not going to bother him too much now. There’s no danger of him not going to the WC if he’s fit, and he’s revered where he is, so it’s a win-win for him. He’d have got a bigger contract at Liverpool of course, but he’s hardly on the breadline. | |
