| Cyclists! on 13:46 - Dec 12 by stonojnr | Why ? Most cycle paths are actually badly designed , are higher risk for cycling on and create far more conflict points in shared space where inevitably they haven't given enough space to share properly. |
There ought to be a huge investment in cycle paths and a prioritisation of cyclists and buses over cars. Us cyclists tend to be pretty fit and if the facilities were there, there would inevitably be an effect on obesity and a boost to self esteem and mental health which, though hard to quantify, would logically save the NHS money. Would a serious investment in cycling be effectively very low cost over time? Hopefully we're heading towards a heavily Green-influenced coalition and we might have a serious, adult future to look forward to.

| Cyclists! on 20:04 - Dec 11 by GavTWTD | Oh and I remember on my Cycling Proficiency Test that you had to have a bell or horn. When walking my dogs on paths in the park I'm expected to have a sixth sense when they're approaching us at speed and they get annoyed that I'm slowing them down. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ |
Conversely, and as a former cyclist and more recent owner of a black dog, I nearly killed a dog whilst cycling. I was on the cycle section of the path on the River Gipping route (hi-vis tabard and a set of lights) and a dog owner, dressed all in black, with a black Labrador let their dog wander on an extendable lead into the cycle lane. They may as well have been ninjas with a trip wire. Thankfully I braked just in the nick of time. The dog could have had a broken neck, owner a broken/dislocated arm, and me straight over the handlebars. There are plenty of hi-vis and illuminated collars and harnesses for dogs these days. Surely it is just common sense?

I recently bought this for my black Lab, large size on middling setting fits him perfectly. I always use the 'steady' light on roads, as the flashing modes dazzle me! but the flashing is great when he's offlead in the woods. It's well made, robust clip-in buckle, rechargeable, & easy to adjust. https://share.google/6AeXmQpDw I also use this tiny, nifty almost weightless light for myself, attached to lapel, can attach & tweak it to point down to see tree roots & is also bright enough to be spotted at a distance on the road alongside a more conventional small clip on type - https://www.wickeduncle.co.uk/ Wicked Uncle is great for both Christmas & birthday prezzies btw! I also wear a high vis hat & vest when daylight's less than perfect.

Was speaking to one of the SCC Active Travel team and they are looking into turning a lot of the junctions, including all those going up Woodbridge Road through Kesgrave into Dutch style junctions where the cycle has has priority first. There are plans for a lot more cycle first areas but they always get so much opposition from residents, they are difficult to get passed
