Players I'd move on in January.... 18:16 - Dec 13 with 2218 viewsBlacknGoldnBlue

Not that I expect the club to but this is who I would move on....

Ashley Young - not sure why we signed him and I've seen suggestions it was to keep his son happy ( not that I believe that), but it seemed a strange signing at the time.

Chuba Akpom - It just hasn't worked out for him. Don't think he suits our system and I didn't think it was the right move at the time. There is obviously a player there and he'll probably tear it up elsewhere

Kasey McAteer - We all thought this was a strange signing...we had Ogbene coming back from injury, Wes waiting in the wings with his long-term injury and we went and signed Egeli. I've seen nothing from McAteer and don't see him getting many minutes in the future.

I'd also consider sensible offer for Grieves as he hasn't stamped his authority to keep his place in the team but I'd only let him go if we recouped the majority of money we spent on him.

Shifting the three players out would clear spaces to get a striker in. Hirst hasn't stepped up to being the main man and Azon, while he gives plenty of effort, isn't ready to lead the line but can trouble teams late on with his energy - and is a capable 3rd choice. We also need to find a midfielder to play alongside Matusiwa, Taylor has done OK but I see his role more as a sub and I don't think he's a long term solution and Cajuste just hasn't been the player we hoped. Neither of these two or Nunez were able to create a partnership with Matusiwa, that the system KM wants to play needs. I also think we need another player to cover Matusiwa for when he is suspended or picks up an injury.

Todays result was a disappointment but we all know that the right moves in January and we have the ability to go on a run and gain the promotion we all want (well most of us)!

Why would we need to pay £50k a week to keep a youngster happy who was released by Peterborough? That’s absolute nonsense.

Not agreeing - and I didnt think McAteer was strange - boy has potential and just needs time to adjust, just like the likes of Davis and Jaden have taken time
Young is more than a player - he offers a lot of experience and support for the younger players, just like Aluko and Tuanzebe have done
Akpom will come good

McAteer has already played for two teams this season so he will not be moved on in January.

McAteer is awful & offers nothing at all. Potential? For what? Dreadful waste of money. Our most embarrassing signing.

Think that is harsh! People said the same about Davis and Jaden to name a few - they just took a while to settle in. People really have no patience do they

To keep his son happy is the kind of ridiculous nonsense that can be dismissed with 10 seconds of critical thinking.

Truly impaired.

All well and good if we could move on some of the suggested players, but I’d worry who we’d bring in going on our summer signings. You could easily add Furlong and Cajuste to the above.

Problem is there’s quite a long list of players who we could justify moving on, simply because we aren’t getting a consistent tune out of anyone this season.

The counter argument is, all I read on here from August to early November was that it just needed time for our ‘cheat codes’ to gel with the expensively recruited newbies.

Dumping a few now and hoping to bring in some replacements who’ll paper over the cracks, just allows that excuse to be trumped out until mid March, by which time we’ll be putting all our eggs in the play-off basket at best..

That will not end well because play-offs require things we’ve been utterly incapable of this season, primarily…

Three decent performances in a row.

An ability to react to going a goal behind at some stage.

A confidence that five or six players have the mental strength to handle a possible penalty shoot out at some stage.

Dum without Dee is actually quite sad to behold…..(What’s App group, Jan 26)

I’d agree with that.

In reality what we need is a CM and a striker as a priority. Players that come in and play ASAP. Maybe these players will get us playing as a team.

I just worry we won’t bring in the right players. I know it’s been discussed to death already but I’d bring Morsy back.

fully agree with you - that statement can be compared with saying Margot Bryant was not happy with her lovely cat.

George Hirst is a definite to move on - he offers no threat at all and is simply not up to it - if your relying on him as a lone forward then it shows you have teh aspirations of a dead cat.. we need 2 very good forwards in the Jan transfer window as at present we are playing with 60% of a team - there is no forward threat at all apart from Jaden who is obviously of teh standard - the rest of the up front mob are seriously not good enough

The problem is it will be very difficult ( if not impossible ) to move any of those players on in January for different reasons. We are pretty much stuck with them for this season at least.

I think that's a fair assessment to be honest. Not sold on Young (legs have clearly gone), Akpom, Furlong (mid table Champ player), Azon, Cajuste or McAteer. You keep these players in the side, and we're looking at a long stint in the Championship.

Questions should rightly be asked about recruitment - McAteer 12m, Philogene 20m, Clarke 15m, Egeli 18m, Ogbene 8m and we still lack speed, variety and width from our wide players. It's totally mad.

Think we have to act decisively in January.

All good and well but who would buy any of them? I'd add Johnson in too due to lack of games and wages.

I am afraid we are going to have to take massive hits on a load of duds or pay big exit fees for loanees.

I don't agree about Young, and feel we should have used him more.

When he came on yesterday he did well. Despite perhaps a lack of pace, he is positionally very good defensively, and he put in one of the few very good crosses down the right that we have made all season.
