| Rotation, 'load' analysis Leif Davis and Azor Matusiwa 12:17 - Dec 14 with 1215 views | cbower | Town in 5 versus Stoke shows Davis returning to the dressing room saying something like 'I'm knackered'. I bet he is! He clearly has, as they say 'a good engine' but he is being flogged. He must cover more ground than anyone else yet he constantly plays the full 90 of virtually every game. He looked totally goosed yesterday. Analytics don't seem to apply to him. Same with Matusiwa. I know he came off after 65ish yesterday but that was circumstantial to be honest. 3 down, chasing the game (well 3 down might be enough said) and already on 9 yellows, that's why he came off. Yes, there are other mainstays - O'Shea , Furlong and more recently Kipre and Walton but their physical load is nowhere near that expected of Davis and Matusiwa. Why is so much more expected of those two players? The answer is simple. A massively unbalanced squad and haphazard recruitment. Questions seriously need to be asked. I accept that the injury to Connor Townsend was unfortunate both for the player and in terms of timing but surely in some games Davis should be coming off for the final 15 to be replaced by Johnson, Young (maybe even Humphreys or Harry Clarke?). Matusiwa plays virtually every 90 because he has no obvious back up. This will be blindingly obvious as it was against Charlton when his two game suspension inevitably happens or, God forbid, he gets a serious injury. We really have made a big mess recruitment wise. I hope we haven't wasted the best chance we may ever have of really progressing this club and establishing ourselves. | |

Greaves Young Johnson Humphreys Baggott Boniface Tbh at 3-0 down. Davis and azon should have been the first two subbed.

Greaves for sure. Though he looked far better there than at CB in his cameo appearances.

If we are winning: Greaves. Extra height to defend corners and balls into the box.

Greaves played plenty of games at LB for Hull (I think). He's also a good ball carrier going forward so I'm absolutely baffled as to why we don't start Greaves when Davis really needs the rest. [Post edited 15 Dec 3:31]

I think the point is that the squad is ridiculously unbalanced which it is. I'd also add in we don't seem to be able to get any youngsters in to team at all which is my biggest grumble. Once Harry goes in January, there's none of our own (I appreciate Boniface came from Chelsea). What is the point of signing the likes of Boniface and keeping Humphreys?
