That's a fantastic result, and may well be the first non-big 2 success since Hibs won the Scottish Cup a few years ago.

How many St Mirren fans were there?

EDIT: I'd forgotten Aberdeen last season.

My favourite Paisley - in the papers so it must be true - story is about the bloke who was attacked by a devil dog and a guy managed to beat the dog away with a baseball bat. Police said the victim was fortunate that the attack happened in Paisley as the likelihood of a passer by carrying a baseball bat was fairly high.

I have always distantly followed Celtic. This result was definitely coming given, Nancy's start and change in formation to a 3. Bearing in mind O'Neill had done so well in his 6 games, I was surprised they didn't delay Nancy starting until the final was over. Would have given O'Neill a proper send off given his history at Celtic and would have taken some pressure off the board. Now it just looks like another mistake by the board. Pleased for St Mirren though.

That's good, as I imagine many in Paisley support Celtic or Rangers it being so close to Glasgow. And its double your capacity.

As the song goes, if you know your history you’ll know that the all-time bigotry champions are Rangersbecause of their refusal to sign Catholic players or, as Sir Alex Ferguson will tell you, do not approve of their players being married to Catholics.
Meanwhile, Celtic were only too pleased to sign Messrs Stein and Dalglish, the greatest manager and player in their history, and both Protestants.

Having said all that, however, I was delighted with the outcome. I’m not a fan of either Old Firm club and was definitely in St Mirren’s corner. Congratulations.

The sectarian bile from both sides of the"christian clemency" was one of many , perhaps, silly things, that made me an ITFC man.
I vividly remember my first game.
20 yo med student, first car(from a wee council upbringing working as a labourer during holidays to afford it)
Stayed at the Holiday Inn(got lost in England'shire A1 a few times)
Paul Mariner's first game for Arsenal, back against Ipswich.
Walking along London Road, getting shoite from the Arsenal buses, seeing men carrying milk crates to the ground thinking they were going to throw them(then realising it was for their kids to stand on🤣)
Beating them 2-1,back to hotel, and a lovely couple from Belstead Road started chatting to me at the bar and said next time you come you stay with us.
And as they say,the rest is history.
So.

Although Jock Stein was seen by the board as only fit to manage the ressies, so Stein said his goodbye to the team (which included some who went on to become Lisbon Lions) and went off to manage Dunfermline:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/

'Dunfermline became a powerful force and Stein guided them to their first Scottish Cup victory in 1961, winning 2–0 in a replayed final against Celtic...Stein was appointed manager of Hibernian in March 1964...Stein then approached Celtic chairman Bob Kelly, ostensibly to ask his advice about [an] offer from Wolves, but in the hope that he would be offered the Celtic job instead. Kelly first offered Stein the position of assistant manager (to Sean Fallon), which Stein rejected. Kelly then offered Stein the chance to be joint manager with Fallon, but this was also rejected by Stein, who suggested he would rather go to Wolves if Celtic would not offer full control... Kelly eventually agreed to offer Stein full powers over team selection.'

There's also this from a Celtic blog, a story which I have heard before.

"There’s a story about Danny McGrain which may or may not be apocryphal but it appeared in both his books, although he said then and continues now to make it clear that he’s not vouching for its veracity. But it’s easy enough to believe.

According to the legend, he was watched playing football as a youngster, by a scout who was all set to recommend him to Rangers. Then the scout saw that his full name was Daniel Fergus McGrain, assumed he was a Catholic and thus ineligible due to their sectarian signing policy and then didn’t bother to. Which worked out pretty well for us, as Danny, in fact, was a Protestant Rangers supporter and would have gone there in a minute."

In truth both are as bad as each other - just because one set covers itself in the Union flag doesn’t make their bile anymore acceptable than what Celtic vomit up.

Thank goodness neither side had found themselves in the English leagues.
