There is a stat about us being the worst misser of big chances in the league 19:21 - Dec 20 with 757 viewsDubtractor

I think it's safe to say that we added to that total today.

Could, and should, have been out of sight long before they got the goal to give us a nervy 5 minutes.

I maintain that getting a better quality centre forward should be our number one priority in January. I keep seeing people say that Azon is 'unlucky' with his finishing, but I think after half a season it's more reasonable to assume that he's just not a good finisher.

He wasn't the only culprit today, but he just never looks convincing at all.

A finisher this season and I genuinely believe they may already have scored 13 or 14. We have created so many good scoring positions. Ho hum...

As I've posted below - the slight counter is that, today at least, Jaden, Nunez, Clarke all missed the target all on good scoring opportunities.

Egeli and McAteer could also have done better.

Not saying that we shouldn't improve our ability to score from our lone striker but we need to be better as a team in terms of hitting the back of the net.

4 big chances recorded today. We took 3, missed 1. Our best return in a long time.

I’ve been banging on for weeks how poor our big chance conversion is, and if we improve it, we’ll get far more positive results.

Think about that - and put it into prespactive. We’re 3rd with a poor conversion rate - fix that (as we did today) and we can only push on.

The goals we scored weren't all the big chances. They were the various misses in the second half. A goal from a corner for example is anything but a big chance.

And I'm not a negative ninny that needs perspective, we're doing OK (though need to be better), but if we could finish our chances a bit better we could make our lives so much easier.

Agree we need a decent striker who can score goals regularly. But we've been saying this for seasons now haven't we. We spend ridiculous money on average players, yet dont push the boat out on the one position we should do. And Jan is not the window to go looking for a striker....

But as ive said before, im not sure bringing in s striker ( who firs scored goals regumarly) will get a lot here, because we dont supply the strikers we do have, with the ball eg piss poor service.

Simply not true.

We have missed the most big chances in the division (42), which is 10 more than Coventry and 18 more than Middlesbrough.

Our two strikers have both missed 11 big chances each, which is equal first with two other players (Haji Wright and Tommy Conway). And we only play with one striker on the pitch at any one time!

Of course a goal from a corner can be a big chance. You’re not understanding how these are recorded if you think that. That’s not a critisim of you - I just think you need to check out how these are measured and recorded.

”A big chance is a clear-cut scoring opportunity where a player should reasonably be expected to score, typically from a one-on-one with the keeper, very close range, or when there's a clear path to goal with little pressure.”

It’s a decent counter but hopefully our finishing improves a bit. I still feel we're missing something.

It is always better to be creating and missing chances than not be creating them at all. To be still challenging for the top two despite failing to take a lot of our chances means that taking a better percentage of them will boost us a lot. Whether that is about getting in a clinical finisher or improving finishing across the team is a separate issue. If you look at who is missing those big chances, it isn't just our main striker but across plenty of players. That suggests that improving composure and finishing across the squad is key.
