Munroe Doctrine kicks in in Venezuela, whilst Trump pushes DOJ corruption 11:00 - Jan 3 with 997 viewsunstableblue

If you haven’t read up on Trump’s stated foreign policy you really should (encapsulated in the National Security Strategy).

I’ll put it simply:

The U.S. has moved away from prioritizing the global spread of democracy and human rights in favour of "flexible realism". Bin foreign aid and the promotion of democratic and rule of law values. Economic might trumps everything.

Americas - dominate the western hemisphere through pre-eminence economically, stop
Immigration, stop drug cartels - with when required military assets, tackle unfriendly regimes - effectively restart the Munroe Doctrine. Hence delta force in Caracas.

Europe - pull out, de-focus completely, try and resolve Ukraine, low appetite -
Putin and Russia not a risk. Lobby for free speech and unregulated tech - anti centre left doctrines, promote right wing parties.

Asia - counter aggression toward Taiwan while demanding that regional allies "step up" and take more responsibility for their own defense. Taiwan semi-conductor industry protection, not peoples.

Middle East - protect Israel as priority, resolve Gazan via economic gains with Middle East oil states. Allow ‘controlled chaos’ in Arabian peninsula, ensure no powerhouse emerges, and seek economic gains, ignore regimes human rights and totalitarian approach.

Africa - largely ignore, stop aid, but seek minerals access where appropriate.

That’s all folks - we all saw this coming, yet so many in the UK (and a few on this board) ‘sanctioned’ it. And we will soon have our own lurch to the right with Reform, and the worst of people in charge.

But I actually think the dangerous US foreign policies pale when compared to the corruption that grows at home, the profiteering, the pardons and worse the pollution of rhe DOJ, see below. If Trump doesn’t get dessimated in the mid terms then the world is in a bad place. Alas it may take the AI bubble to burst and the markets to crash to displace this frickin orange racist dictator:

As far as Europe is concerned, that aim overlaps well with Putin's aims. Putin has promoted the weakening of Europe as collectivism is seen as a threat to his power. There has been a lot of Russian influence promoting right-wing isolationist parties.

What has helped Ukraine so far is Trump's economic self-interest and his design on accessing their resources as compensation for support.

I am quite sure Trump does not see Europe controlled by Putin as a threat. Let Russia and China have that part of the world as long as it still benefits USA economically. He would probably like to keep the UK as a US state (or at least useful puppet), though.

I have always thought the world will never be allowed to have another world war. That cooler heads would prevail. I am not so sure now.

There seems to be so many conflicts just waiting for the slightest spark. Are we going to see Russia vs Europe, China vs USA, North Korea vs South Korea, Iran vs Israel?

I really don't know if it's beyond Trump to start a war just to stay in office. Especially if there's buried Epstein files he wants to stay hidden.

Truly impaired.

“Let Russia and China have that part of the world as long as it still benefits USA economically”

Not sure how the US as a whole benefits from that when they have around 1trn of assets in Europe (Russia has already seized Western assets in the parts of Ukraine it controls. Russia is also a poor country with a tiny economy. I think it’s more a case of cronyism and who controls what commodities in any ceding of territory.

Interesting that the Monroe Doctrine is being invoked given that someone on the World Service just said that in 200 years the US had never been engaged in direct action against any south American country.

Though they have in Central America & Caribbean; Panama, Grenada
And interfered in many others; El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua

They've also interfered heavily in Colombia for decades

Whilst looking up clarification of my knowledge of the above I came across a previous economic war

Early 20th Century (Banana Wars): U.S. military interventions in nations like Nicaragua, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic, often driven by United Fruit Company (UFC) business interests, leading to regime changes and establishing U.S. economic dominance

Mega corp!
