After I moved from Ipswich to Southampton as a kid I was in the same class as Martin. I remember him as good at all sports - I seem to remember Hampshire wanted him to sign for the county cricket and he held all the schools running records.

If I recall correctly he was at Portman Road for discussions with Bobby Robson but opted for Spurs instead. He was a superb player and would have thrived here.

I saw him play a few times and really only remember him at Spurs.

In an age where players had to look after themselves, he was a big lad who could certainly do that. Good in the air and on the ground, he was pretty much a goal every two games forward and that speaks for itself. He also played for England 24 times.

RIP Mr Chivers.

One of my school mates was named after him.

One of my all time favourite centre forwards. RIP Martin

Yes indeed, a favourite of mine as a kid, one of Ramsey’s forward line in the early 70’s.

He joined Spurs a year before Sir Bobby was appointed Ipswich manager. I remember seeing him play for Norwich which became a home for aging former great players along with Mick Channon and Martin Peters.

IODRC - I obviously don't recall correctly... who else could it have been? Channon?

Due to living near WHL as a teenager, I saw him play numerous times. Good old fashioned centre-forward who scored goals. Could do with someone like that at PR!!!
