Strikers and the Lack of Resource 08:37 - Jan 9 with 1108 viewsMetal_Hacker

Not a massive collection to go after in terms of short term gain coupled with long term benefit but one that has been mentioned before and not recently that I've noticed is Will Osula

Not a huge scoring record yet.....but the times I've seen him he looks aggressive , runs and runs and looks a nuisance

Jan loan with an option perhaps if promoted ?

I'd like to think Cairney , Osula and an exciting young Prem Loan No 10 would do us good

It seems as though this striker issue is worldwide in football at the moment. I really do feel as though we are seeing the Messi influence whereby kids that used to grow up wanting to be number 9s now want to be attacking midfielders and play in the 10 role.

When you look at the 'big clubs' they have all had their difficulties. Delap and Pedro have done ok at Chelsea without lighting it up, Sesko and Zirkzee have looked very poor at united, Gyokeres hasn't lived up to the hype, Isaac has struggled at Liverpool, albeit he did the business last season. Citeh obviously struck gold with Haaland but even outside of that their options for backups are limited.

Then we seem to have a similar situation in the championship where options of out and out goal scoring strikers seems minimal.

Totally agree and this isn't a recent thing this is something that has stagnated for a good number of years now with not a lot coming through either

I guess the most recent one to come through for me with any credence who you'd class as a No 9 is Isak (when at Newcastle)

How football has changed over the years but perhaps we're going full circle yet again with more set piece awareness and coaching of those aspects - perhaps we may well end up as back in the day with a big No 9 and a busy little Eric Gates alongside em

Osula looks set for the German top flight on loan.

Agree there is a shortage, esp traditional out and out strikers in the Kane mould. Delap may be the one of the last as the game seems intent on having forwards rather than strikers

Poll: Will Phil ever confirm we are actually close on a signing ever again

So many teams play the same model. 1 through the middle who ideally needs to be tall, quick, mobile and good at holding up and linking up. Ad so you need 2-3 of them in your squad. That s now a huge challenge.

You used to have a huge variety of front pairing or a mix of 1 or 2 up top. You had your Yorke/Cole partnerships (quick and playing off one another). Your big man/little man combos (Quinn/Phillips) and your almost hybrid of the above (Heskey/Owen).

So not everyone shopping in the same pool.

Doesn't mean they just give up and sell to us though. They still want playoffs and promotion. They will want £15-20 mil and that would be too much IMO.

True, but if you don't ask you don't get,
One of the best at this level and played a few seasons in the premiership,
As posters are saying a real shortage of strikers unless you get lucky,
We will have just the same problem in the summer, strike now,

We've been in for him before so we may well have again. Just don't see it happening

I think you are right here but also the fact that everyone plays with just the 1 striker these days and they are expected to do a lot more than just score goals. Its a tough gig!

You'll see a lot more kids wanting to play wide or in the 10 I'd imagine.

My son played up top from U8s through to U11s and scored plenty of goals. Got to 11 a side at U12 and he lacks the physicality to do that lone striker role effectively so now finds himself playing wide right/left. Its become a really niche position.

Think back to the past and the big man/little man combo was really successful so you could be different types of striker. Wonder if we will see a return to the 4-4-2 ? long throws are back in trend! you never know

Good player but doesnt suit our striker style at all

Agree with the main post also. Go back 10-15 years and the strikers around were unbelievable, Aguero, Rooney, Drogba, Suarez, RVP, Kane etc.. Nowadays you have Haaland and Isak and thats it.
