5 quick points from Ipswich 3-0 Blackburn - atmos, MOTM, champ hotting up 16:24 - Jan 17 with 1275 viewsunstableblue

5 main observations from me:

1) An effective performance with well worked early goals, but we didn’t shift into 4th gear and bring the crowd fully into it until the last 10mins. But that is the game management, steady progress we are making. But we do need to become more effective in the final third - see 4.

2) Well done North Stand, influenced by block A, a far superior atmosphere - but still a long way to go. We need to roar on these dynamic forward moves not sort of limply rise for them. But positively fans stayed behind and sang for McKenna which he clearly really appreciated. The players do need to move to the North Stand quicker and engage them more effectively. OShea couldn’t get Kipre to do the fist bump.

3) Kipre had one of his less effective performance yet got man of the match. Matusiwa probably had one of his least influential games, two match ban risk having over him? Jack Clarke really is a Rolls Royce player. Hirst was a good target man today. The linkages between Nunez and him was excellent.

4) Our final attacking plan and shape has still not gelled, and is hampered by players who are not killers in the box, Egeli, Nunez, Azon, need to do better. That really should have been 5-0. Burns and Szmodics made us much more threatening. Maybe it’s experience.

5) This league is going into one of those crazy competitive phases - much like our league 1 and last champ campaign. A battle royale between 3 good teams, but with others pushing on. Let’s not sit back and enjoy it, let’s get fully involved and support this team into the run we need.

Glad the atmosphere was better. Unfortunately, those red button games make every ground sound like a morgue.

Yep, Sky suck as much joy out of the game as VAR. I wish they’d turn down the inane tapping and turn up the pitch side mics. Who cares if we hear a few saucy words?

I think the home crowd was helped by the quick start and playing on the front foot for the first 20 mins. After that the performance was a bit flat (yeah I know game was pretty much won by then, but the atmosphere fell flat as a result.

A scrappy game and lots of misplaced passes from us. We were nothing better than adequate I think, was generally quite sloppy. Blackburn were dire, no surprise to see their league position. Worked hard and pressed is even in the last few mins of added time, but their creative play and finishing was dreadful.

Strange game, delighted to win 3-0 but it wasn’t pretty. What has happened to Hirst he looks a shadow of the player in our promotion season. Not sure if it’s a confidence thing or all the injuries in and out the side - his first touch was awful and searingly lost the ball every time. The quality hold up play hasn’t been there this season but I’m not sure why.

Fifth home win in a row! Now onto Tuesday. Jaden knee? Controversy? on 16:55 - Jan 17 with 931 viewsunstableblue

Was the knee Jaden felt on the side of his previous injury?

It looked a stonewall penalty from the foul on Azon? Was the ref equalising the early Blackburn shout? What that a pen?

Burns looked a touch offside off our 3rd, but slowing it down looks very close, marginal. Let those stands.

The atmosphere was ok. The NS stuck at it. My five points:

1. When we are attacking, we look deadly at times. Blackburn will be happy to have got away with a good beating. It could have been a hiding.

2. Nunez - what a terrific player. A lot of lateral movement today, he got behind their players and caused mayhem. He is noticeably improving

3. I’ve no problem with playing around at the back, but I think there are times when the opposition are pressing high where it’s a better option to. Send it to the CF and the midfielders joint to pick up the bits. We nearly made a dogs of it two or three times today.

4. Despite that, another clean sheet racked up. The basis of any decent side.

5. Overall - a good performance in patches and the opposition was utterly outclassed really, despite working hard.

Instinctively I agree with your fourth point, but then I look at how many goals we've scored and wonder if I'm expecting too much. There's been a handful of occasions this season where we've won relatively comfortably and yet had the feeling we probably should have scored more.

Not one of Matusiwa's better games. Gave the ball away a lot. Didn't seem quite on it. Hopefully saving himself to officially depose the King of Egypt.

Some of the build play to getting into the danger area is brilliant, but we just overplay or don’t take the first shot.

But it was exciting in that second half, especially when Azon started to influence and Clarke went into turbo mode

What a player

the problem is it's bounces of our number 9 most of the time, Hirsts hold up play has definitely taken a turn for the worse this campaign
