Not convinced with Sammie as a 10 so far but if KM thinks he can do it then that’s good enough for me. Maybe Egeli for last 25mins see what he can do there. The mystery injury is concerning if Matisuwa, will miss out best player. Wouldn’t that also mean Cajuste having to play 90 mins (presumably alongside Taylor). All conjecture though I guesss at this point.

| Sammie or Sindre for no10 on Sat? on 17:18 - Jan 22 by Wright1 | Agree to disagree. Yes, he is a ball carrier but i'm not sure he would get the ball in the positions to make the best use of that higher up the pitch (except the odd counter attack). It's very different using your frame to power through two or three players in transition when the whole pitch is in front of you, compared to getting the ball in tight spaces in between the lines often with your back to goal. I also question whether he would make the most of any space he might open up with his ability to turn away from the opposition - again, there's plenty of evidence he isn't a goal scorer and very little evidence of creative passing from him. He actually showed a bit of a lack of composure by taking a chance off Jack Clarkes foot in the first half against Bristol. |
You say Cajuste is not a goal scorer, but Nunez has been successful in the role without having Chaplin or Szmodics finishing abilities; his goals this season have come from 2 free kicks that he would have taken as a midfielder & a surprising header. Away from home, against sides employing a low block defence, Cajuste's movement would be a nightmare for them in that central #10 role & serious weapon for us in opening space by drawing defensive cover. He has proven his ability in threading a perfectly weighted pass to onrushing teammate & has also shown that he can win possession in the final third with well timed tackles; we have scored 2 important league goals directly from him doing just that. You can have a preference for the style of player you want in that role, but to say that he has none of qualities needed to be an asset there, is clearly wide of the mark.

Unlikely we'd throw him straight in I imagine. More likely to come off the bench for 20-30 minutes.

If it's Matisuwa he needs to start, get booked, and then be replaced.
