| The quality of Olympic athletes... 20:58 - Feb 14 with 449 views | Zx1988 | Here's a thought, with a view to helping us really appreciate the standard of Olympic athletes: Before each event, a lay-person must give it a go. They've never done the event before, but have been given a year of evenings and weekends to learn how to do it, and give it their best. I'd pay money to see that. | |

Not me. I’ve seen what the halfpipe looks like and people practicing on it. I’ve skied downhill runs (badly), down the side of snowboard parks, you name it. I’ve stood at the bottom of the ski jumps at Calgary - but I’ve not seen what a luge/bob/Bob sleigh track looks like for real. I could ski (shamble) down literally anywhere, a lot of it off trail through trees, down here, there and everywhere. It was all a challenge, fun and all good. But these people at Cortina are completely off the scale in every way you can imagine from courage to pure skill. Different. They’re truly amazing and hats off from me along with I suspect all those who’ve been lucky enough to play in the mountains. I can’t think of a sport where athletes give more, most of them literally on the ragged edge. . | | | |
