8 away 7 at home left, the race to 85+ 15:34 - Feb 22 with 762 viewsJoey_Joe_Joe_Junior

Let’s say it’s 86 points for second based on Boro’s current PPG

At least 10 wins needed most likely. For the math to math we are going to need to win probably half of our away games (yikes) to get to 85+ points and even then have to win 6 out of 7 at home with the likes of Brum, Boro and co still to play

We do have some winnable aways

Watford
Stoke
Sheffield Wednesday
Charlton
WBA

Some tough ones as well.

Scum (hate to do it but we know our recent record)
Pompey
Saints

Scary to think we can’t afford any dips unless someone above us really implodes. Just worth noting there’s no more “in isolation” results and there will be games where a point away isn’t even a good result.

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

Thats why people who say a third of the season left imo underplay how little that actually is in total of games left.

Wrexham was a winnable away game. But then Coventry away shouldn't have been. We have no clue what town side will rock up to our away games.

I think we will do the business at home.. I just cant see what KM can change to be better away from home with this squad. Its had time. Its gelled. But it still hasnt cracked away game performances.

based on the last 10 games

home - played 5, wins 4 Draws 1 (PPG 2.5) (2.5 x 7 remaining away games = 17.5)
away - played 5. wins 2 Draws 1 Losses 2 (PPG 1.4) (1.4 x 8 remaining home games = 11.2)

Total of 28.7 points, added to the 54 we have - 82.7

(but if based on the last 31 it brings us to 79 points. 79 points gets you 4th or 5th in the last 5/6 seasons, didnt check any further back)

As we stand here today we arent getting 10 wins but we really should focus on our next game and repeat then see where we are next week. If by some stretch of the imagination we manage to secure automatic promotion we can celebrate in May, more likely we need to manage the performances and mood around the club to be the best we can be and demolish the playoffs. It really doeant matter how we get out of this league but securing PL cash for another season or so will continue transforming the club.

Looking at it we have a max of 2/3 losses left to play with really and it obviously can’t be to Boro at home.

As I’m not playing Tuesday night, I’ve decided to zoom out and look the bigger picture and what’s needed.

I hate to say it but I think playoffs with the return we need away, hopefully I’m wrong. If Boro get twitchy it could of cause be even 82-83 point second place season which would be pretty insane.

If we are to get top 2, we need to be better away than we have been over the season to date, no argument on that.

Does feel like we can't get into a run of decent form away from home, and the W5 D4 L6 results perfectly illustrates that lack of consistency.

Our chances ultimately come down to our away games - improve on the season to date, and we'll probably go up. Don't, and it is playoffs.

Do we keep sticking with what we have away or do we actually try something different

No Clarke. No philohene. Put mehmeti in the broadhead role and this would then allow davis to have the natural width option.

Stick hirst uptop but we revert back to our flying 3 v high press. Etc

....make sure we get into the play-offs, it's not inconceivable that we struggle even in that aim.

Regroup at that stage and hope for the best.

We’d have to go on a terrible run for that to happen.

We'll need closer to 90 points on 16:01 - Feb 22 with 560 viewsunstableblue

If Coventry hit 2PPG again, which is likely now they have found form and goals.

Then they'll hit 91 points

Swansea is a MUST win, no excuses anymore. Watford win looks necessary do to Wrexham loss.
