McKenna and the players kept their distance last night 08:03 - Feb 25 with 3078 viewsDJR

Apart from Walton who did the customary win celebration, it was noticeable to me that the team and McKenna kept their distance from the away fans after the game.

The contrast with Derby couldn't have been greater, even though the result was just as key.

I wonder if that was a result of the disgraceful reaction of many fans after the game on Saturday..

I know this may not be popular and ive been guilty of it this season , but we really do need to remember as a fanbase how low and dark things did get with this club, these are years in the sun we are having. Money has warped views a little, certainly has with my expectations, but after sunday ive had to do a little reset and just start enjoying a team that is one of the best in the league.

Its a new social media based generation and the way they react is different and more immediate. That generation includes the players as well don't forget, who sometimes react the same way. There are now many more footballing 'experts' dissecting every performance and targeting (or praising) individuals and often dismissing any future for players after a couple of poor performances. At the same time the older, more traditionally working class fans, are criticised (often correctly) for sounding off in the same way at games, which they've been doing for decades.

I would have been too young (and without internet access) to notice anything at the time:

Did things get as unpleasant during our 2002/3 failure to bounce back as they have done this season at times?

I dont recall it ever being like it is thesedays.

I think alot of the fanbase still reacted with shock when Burley got sacked, and we were 19th and had only won 3 games all season.

Even losing to Grimsby wasnt as bad as the reaction some people had to losing at Wrexham, and that really was a shocker of a performance.

I mean I looked at the stats over the weekend, even if we finished 4th, it would be our 2nd best Championship season for like quarter of a century, and the current manager actually gave us our best.

thats how insanely OTT people have been about bad mouthing our performances this season.

Was the gap, in terms of finances and quality, as significant then? Had Burley blamed the gap for the whole of the previous season?
