Žan Vipotnik 22:41 - Mar 1 with 4209 viewsmrfixit426

I had a good look at him yesterday as I wanted to see if he matched up to the hype he's been getting recently.

He absolutely does. His movement was excellent. He plays mainly within the width of the penalty area, has an excellent first touch and looks strong. Great first touch and brings others into play with both feet, and obviously hit that exocet missile of a free kick at the end. He scored with a similar shot the other week.

His movement in the box was fantastic and I would imagine he is a nightmare to mark.

What surprised me the most though, was his willingness to press. He looks (a little) heavy maybe, so I was surprised to see him putting in that intensity of work.

I also didn't realise he's only 23. Certainly one I would imagine the club has been taking a long look at.

"He plays mainly within the width of the penalty area". Yep, that's him. And he likes the ball to feet but not with his back facing the goal. If you can feed him anywhere near or just inside the box he's a real handful now. Swansea don't have any creative 10s or wingers, but I'd love to see what he could do ahead of Nunez and Mehmeti.

I have to say, I was quite underwhelmed with him. Other than smashing the crossbar, did he actually do anything else of note?

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…

No, but neither did mehmeti when he played at PR this season for BC.

That’s normal. He’ll be invisible for 79 minutes and then score the winner. In his defence Swansea are awful at actually finding him.

This is what I posted about him on another thread, which tallies with what you saw. He often looks underwhelming imo too:

A Chile international on the pitch for each side yesterday by Swansea_Blue 2 Mar 13:20
Sorry, I missed this yesterday.

I’m confused by him. He looked really poor last year. His hold up play wasn’t great, he wasn’t the most mobile and certainly not quick, he was poor in the air for his size and he had poor movement in the box and so rarely getting on the ends of crosses. The obvious thing he had was a cracking shot. He was expected to leave in the summer and most Swans fans would have been happy to see him go.

Something changed early this season after they spent £7m(ish) on a replacement in Idah. He’s improved. He’s still not particularly mobile and doesn’t make the sort of runs Hirst does. His hold up play is better. But the main thing is that he seems to be finding space in the box more often rather than getting marked out of the game. And if he gets space he can be lethal. He’s a player you won’t notice on the pitch, but will get two goals. He hits a ball harder than I’ve ever seen too. That free kick at the end was standard for him.

I’d be in two minds for us. If we want a mobile, unselfish striker who benefits the team like Hirsty, he’s not the man (although he could improve that part of his game). As an out and out goal scorer around the box, he’d be great.

Delap is overrated. Battering ram, athlete, excellent dribbler, and fierce long-range shot. But hardly any football brain, failed to act as fulcrum, selfish, poor passer, and poor heading technique for big man. He's got a lot of developing to do before he's anywhere near the same league as Harry Kane. Probably never will be. We completely lost our identity when Delap played. We became a group of players that gave it to Liam and crossed our fingers, because we knew he wouldn't give it back. He'd either lose possession or get an attempt on goal almost every time he got the ball, and much more often the former. We ceased to be a team. Unlikely he'll have developed much this season sitting on Chelsea's bench.
