Clarkes miss aside.... 10:16 - Mar 5 with 457 viewsRimsy

the build up was absolutely superb, reminiscent of the best of the L1 season. Just a pity Clarke contrived to miss one of those 'easier to score' moments.

That was nice, it was peak Ipswich under McKenna.

Terrible finish though, I'm not having it that it was a good save by the keeper, he shouldn't have had a chance.

The move was delightful, and the selfless square from Burns is underappreciated, been numerous occasions this season players have chose not to make the right decision in exchange for glory themselves, Azon and Hirst both it at Watford.

Bad miss though you are right, almost came off his heel, keeper shouldn't have even had a chance.

It was a very good save from their keeper but made easier by going with his right foot, he should of gone for the easy tap in with his left foot, but as with most footballers these days they are very one footed, Lewis Koumas for Hull looked a good player but being entirely one footed made life so much easier for our defenders.

Leif's burst was so good. I think he's actually got quicker with the ball at his feet, he just so rarely gets given the space by opposition these days.

You've actually managed to get this completely flipped. He should have used his right to play it across his body into the bottom corner nearest to him (or indeed back from whence the goalie came) but instead went with his left and it seemed to catch him mid-step and so it cannoned off his heel.

I disagree. It was a brilliant save in a split second in real time. He came from nowhere to block it when many keepers wouldn’t have even tried. Clarke hit the target. He didn’t miss. Would he take it differently had he had the chance again? Of course - probably by keeping the ball down but the gift of hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I’ve seen the game back now. Clarke (of course still well and truly on the haters list, albeit down the loathe-order) had a really good game. He tried things, kept the ball moving, showed terrific control and positional awareness most of the time and was a nightmare for the opposition. Needs to sort out the hair, shorts and heading, which is a tad lame.

For me, he was not a million miles behind outstanding Matusiwa and Nunez for man of the match.

Overall, I thought the team performance was excellent. Everyone had a good game against a robust, very well organised opposition. Earlier this season against a team playing Alamo football like that, we probably wouldn’t have won the game.

But the players are no longer looking for each other (sign of the team blending) and moving the ball quicker at times. We also, with Mehmeti, have the capacity to do things a little differently. He really has made an impact. A proper player.

Overall, it was up there with the Coventry away performance for me as the best we’ve played this season. You are not going to play free flowing open football all the time against a 1-10 formation. You sometimes have to dig to get a result, and they did.

One thing I did notice about Matusiwa’s goal was that to break a packed defence, lay backs and shots have to be an option. It’s noticeable that Clarke was looking to do it and of course for Mehmeti it’s a key part of his game.

Churchy, I generally agree with most of your posts, but I have to disagree with the first part of this one. I too watched back Clarke's miss on the highlights (in real time) and my first thought is that it was even worse than when I saw it live! Aside from missing the goal completely, he put the shot in probably the only place where the keeper had a chance to save it (mid-height and in the middle of the goal). It was a perfectly weighted pass from Burns, he was on the edge of the 6-yard box, with no-one near him and most of the goal to aim for. It was a poor miss.

JC did keep trying and didn't hide, even after the miss. But more than once he chose the wrong option. I found him a frustrating watch. Quite unusual I should add because he's one who likes to take on a player or two, which normally gets you off of your seat.

Agree with you about the team performance and Mehmeti. What a signing.

The only thing I thought at the time was that Hirst's pass was much better suited to go straight into Clarke who was on goal, as opposed to Wes outside of him (but that is probably overly harsh seeing as though Burns put it on a plate!)

Have we all forgotten the great move where Taylor just missed the post in the first half. We are now a very good team, whether we can overhaul Boro is totally up to us.
No silly mistakes and beat Boro at home.
When is Philly back ? any ideas.
