Football is slowly eating itself from greed. Expensive tickets, PL full of tourist fans, stupid kick off times, tedious VAR, and now this. After COVID attendances rose, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that tails off. Trouble is they don’t need us fans for the revenue any more with all the rights sold abroad.

I don’t mind it.

For those of us old enough to recall the introduction of play offs, this very much echoes the reaction to that as a concept.

It’s worked ok in the conference for a little while.

Ironically, it doesn’t remove dead rubbers all that much, as teams will be ‘safe’ in the playoff places a lot sooner.

Just a weird scramble for 8th(!) place.

Unfortunately it isn't the same as the National League. If they had that system it would make more sense. The 3rd and 4th Teams get a decent advantage. a 2 legged semi final makes it pretty much the same as before but you COULD get 7th or 8th instead of 5th and 6th. Seems a pointless step to me.

Add to all of that; Arsenal’s anti-football, ridiculous scrums at every set piece, and, of more concern, fans crying about “corruption” at every ref or VAR controversy. The game is stuck in a misery loop.

Crazy this got approved and through before they fixed the National League promotion issues. Self-serving at it's best.

TV income could tail off though if fans get bored. It isn't a lot of fun watching players standing around waiting for VAR decisions.

Expanding the play-offs could lead to less interest in the Championship matches as fans may prefer to wait for the play-off games rather than see so many league matches.

Apparently a majority vote was needed but the vote included ALL EFL clubs, not just Championship clubs.

You'd imagine all L1 clubs voting for it, not unusual for a L1 club to come up and get into 8th.

I wonder how Town voted. If this was done with the correct level of open-ness they should release details of who voted for and against.

Is it not also being applied in leagues 1 and 2?

I wonder. I would have hoped they would consult with fans before voting.

No, it's solely the Championship play offs
