| Barry Bannon wedding ring remover ! 06:59 - Mar 22 with 2143 views | stiff_talking | One of most bizarre entrance's to Portman Road pitch. Barry Bannon unable to take the field as he couldn’t remove the wedding ring. Is anyone able to remember an entrance even more bizarre ? If you have a story please share it in this thread. A substitution that doesn’t go according to plan ! | | | | |
| Barry Bannon wedding ring remover ! on 10:13 - Mar 22 with 1754 views | EdwardStone | The wedding ring thing was bizarre.... was Bannon Barry Bannon really not expecting to play? Recently a lot of bench players seem totally taken by surprise when they are told "You're on" They have to faff around changing garments, finding and fitting their bra, generally getting ready Maybe if it is a planned substitution, aka tactical sub rather than forced by an on-field injury, the staff could give the player a 10 minute then a 5 minute warning ... give them time to get themselves sorted Or maybe the players could be on instant readiness, able to spring into action without the need for faffing about | | | |

Instant readiness could be inculcated by having all the players on the bench's places fitted with ejector seats, McKenna gets an X-Box style controller and when the time comes...BOOM. [Post edited 22 Mar 21:00]

Good plan Although we would then have a long wait for the subbed player to leave the field of play Especially if they are doing the slow trot/air clapping routine as ably demonstrated by S Hunt If we are after slick sub protocol, maybe the ref could chase the retiring player off the pitch with a super=soaker.....or an electric cattle prod

Now that would have been an unusual entrance! Gave them that extra guile and quality when he eventually did make it onto the pitch.

Substitutes are a strange breed these days. As you say, utterly bewildered when they’re required and then need ten minutes for someone to dress them. Imagine Ipswich away at Stoke on a cold Tuesday night circa 1976. Sir Bobby: ‘Right, Clive’s hobbling, you’re on Mick.’ MIck Lambert : ‘Give us a minute, boss, I’ve left my boots in the Datsun and I can’t get my pinky ring off…’ [Post edited 22 Mar 20:53]

I don’t understand why they can’t be on the bench with their match shirt on. Not so long ago the sub got the nod from the gaffer, track suit top off and on they went, communicating the change in formation as they went. And whilst we’re on the subject what’s the deal with this double hop hop thing as they go over the touch line? | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I dunno; you educate me with 'inculcated' (which I had to look up), then you let me down with a couple of bloody greengrocers'!

Only one greengrocer's apostrophe as far as I could see but I've now corrected that, apologies, shall try and avoid these error's in future...

No. Not even allowed to tape up a wedding ring in rugby anymore. Many in our sport wear silicone rings which wives like to wear around their necks during the week.

The player would have to leave the field whilst his replacement is airbourne.

Likewise ear studs have to be removed, even if only fitted in the last few days, as I found out to my cost this season coaching my ladies side, meaning my captain couldn't play as she wasn't allowed to remove the studs for fear of infection!

| Barry Bannon wedding ring remover ! on 20:26 - Mar 23 with 154 views | FifeITFC | I seem to remember a home game around 1986/87 where Ian Atkins refused to be subbed (ala Kepa for Chelsea in the final) and point-blank refused to leave the field. For the life of me, I can't remember what game it was but I am fairly sure it was either a night game or winter game as I remember it being dark and the floodlights on. Does anyone else remember this and the game? | |

Time enough for that because the parachute on the ejector seat would slow things down, more problematic is who is responsible for removing the machinery and parachute from the field of play. Fourth official's job I reckon.
