Why have the club not made a statement? 16:17 - Mar 24 with 1024 viewsTresBonne

I’m in the office so have been infrequently checking social media throughout the day, but it seems as though this beast is growing and growing and only getting bigger as more people outside of Suffolk pick it up.

I’m nowhere near as bothered as some people are (right to your own opinions and all that!) but I think it’s pretty clear on any side of the spectrum that you sit - the club need to come out and comment on this ASAP.

Do we think it’s because it really was a planned thing, contrary to reports, and they know that Reform’s channel is going to come back with something to bite us on the arse? It’s the only logical thing I can think of at this time. Unless they are in talks with their social media teams to put a stop to this.

I suppose there are a few possibilities:

1) They're hoping that it'll all blow over, much like the Norwich tickets fiasco did.

2) They're getting all of their ducks in a row, with a view to releasing a comprehensive and suitably-lawyered statement.

3) They've realised they've been caught in the lie regarding their earlier 'no official involvement' statement, and can't come up with a suitable way to get out of this whilst saving face.

Yes unfortunately it does point to the club being much more fully aware than they are making out, meaning there is probably nothing they can now do to calm it down. So they've opted to let the storm pass...

Probably burying their heads in the sand and hoping it becomes tomorrow's chip paper, like they have done for other emotive issues in the past.

The key difference being that nobody outside of ITFC circles has picked up on previous PR gaffes.

I suspect it's a bit of 3... they naively didn't realise how Reform would promote the occasion and thought that their non-answer (rather than a total lie, I hope) would have been sufficient.

But also 4... they now don't know how to avoid the inevitable backlash if they are seen to oppose Reform.

Poll: After the video, how do you feel?

True, and they should release a firm rebuttal, but the cork has well and truly popped off the bottle on this one and there's not much they can do now to stop people writing what they're going to write.

My issue isn't necessarily the response, its the fact they let it happen to begin with. Utterly idiotic from whoever sanctioned it, and there's nothing they can do to change that now.

I think you're right on your comments on 3.

I notice that the original 'no official involvement' comment appears to have been watered-down/clarified to saying that Führage wasn't officially invited to the club.

Why have they not?
My guess they are culpable and late in the day realise they have been naive but have little idea how to resolve the issue.

A start: Apology to fans and disassociation with Farage's views plus a restatement that the club don't get involved in party politics. They might also like to reaffirm support for Kick it Out, Rainbow Laces and inclusion - everything Farage standx against.

Good suggestions, but talk is cheap.

Some of the decisions the club has made in recent years makes a complete mockery of much of that.

Yes, if the situation is no more compromising than already briefed then a statement along those lines should be perfectly simple.

I'm sure the club will issue a statement in due course, just a note to say the club isn't affiliated to any political party and continues to be an all inclusive football club, which we know is all true.

Lot of people getting worked up about Farage booking a tour to walk around the stadium and giddy about his own PR parade off the back of it, which is all part of the game they are in.

You don't have to like Farage and his party, but he's not a convict, and he isn't running an illegal organisation, and if wants to book a tour of the stadium that is open to the public, then I presume he is free to do so.

I think people are getting themselves worked up based off there political views, rather than the facts of the matter.

I don't think anyone is asking that he is banned from the stadium. We aren't in North Korea or, indeed, the US. It is more that anybody with half a brain cell could see from a million miles off that Reform would be looking to make hay with it, and perhaps implement the usual stadium tour T&Cs particularly tightly. And presumably, if this is all there is to it, ITFC would want to point out that they do not associate themselves with the inevitable party political broadcasts that have followed.

100% this.

Lots of people who have the political view that racism is bad, getting annoyed with a racist bigot using Ipswich Town FC to further their cause.

Bunch of snowflakes.

Exactly, the Club has to clarify that it is not associated with ANY political party. But the genie is out of the bottle and Farage has committed an appalling scam on the Club. Write and complain to Mark Ashton at the usual address.

A fair point - but the line we've been given is that there's been "no Club involvement."

I'm going to book a stadium tour now - I didn't realise part of the package was having shirts printed with my name on and being allowed to have photoshoots with them in the dressing room.
